Which Cordless, Multi-Button Mouse???

I am in hte market for a new mouse.

I want quality but at a good value price (dont mistake that as cheap!!!) multi button mouse with a scroll wheel (or pad). i want it to be accurate and well built too (i dont like flimsy buttons that are likely to snap off or move from left to right whilst clicking them etc)

any suggestions

Well, since my hands are small for a guy I have a MS 6000 laptop mouse that has two buttons and the wheel. For a short time I had the MS BT mouse that looks like the Logitech MX1000 and that was very nice to use. Again my hands, really fingers are small so I went with the smalled mouse. If I could have gotten use to the MS one it would really do a lot more than the one I have now does.

I currently use the Microsoft Wireless Laser Mouse 6000. It does require an unsightly USB cord, but it stays out of sight behind my iMac. I tried the Mighty Mouse for a while, but I couldn't live without the ergonomics and side buttons of the classic MS design.

I have no idea why the regular 6000 requires a larger receiver than the notebook version. Maybe the full size pad offers better range than the notebook dongle?

I don't find it flimsy at all. Everything seems very solid, and it has nice weight...feels good in my hand. I find the laser tracking to be excellent and the buttons are all very well positioned for minimal hand movement.

The only negative in my book was that it requires a USB connection for the charger/receiver since it works on RF instead of BT. I really wanted a BT mouse to work just with my PB and no receiver/charger, but all of the quality multi-button mice still required that connection. I believe this is still the case. You can get away with a mouse-only setup with something like the Apple BT mouse, but add some real functionality and they've all got that cradle.

Are the buttons programmable? That is, can the middle button activate dashboard and the middle-side button do expose?

Absolutely...I've got buttons programmed to minimize windows, hide apps, go backward and forward in Safari, etc. I'm not a big Exposé user, but if I was I'd have that programmed in. And I find F12 to be convenient enough for my Dashboard needs...I don't access it that often.

mx1000. heavy, 8 buttons, good battery life, nice ergonomics if you're right-handed (horrible if you're left though), etc.
