I have a 15" TiBook from a few years back. It's the one with the SuperDrive that supposedly does 1x write speed. My dumb question is: Should I be able to burn to most any blank DVD-Rs with that? I'm asking because, for example, some of the Memorex brand DVD-Rs have a disclaimer that says they won't work with some first-generation DVD burners.

I'm not sure, you could always buy a set of 10 and try them out.
There is no perfect disk...every disk is imperfect and has errors. The errors are fixed with error correction in the drives.

Fujifilm are number 1 in the sense that their disks have the best dye and least errors

Then you have memorex

I think I found an answer to my question at this page:
All SuperDrive equipped Macs are compatible with 1x and 2x DVD-R media. With 4x DVD-R media and the new 8x DVD-R media, it is important that your SuperDrive be up to date before using this higher speed media.
So it sounds like I need to stay away from 4x and 8x DVD-R media, and look for the 1-2x disks. Hopefully that is not easier said than done. ;)
