HI

My internal HD has had it. Instead of messing around changing the HD I just want to use an External HD, could anyone suggest a good one (cheaper the better though!) not too bothered about storage space either.

Just needs to come with everything needed to run OSX for an iMac (ive got install disks of course)

As has been written before, and will be written again, any HDD will do, as you can format it during the installation process with the right file system (HFS+).

It's best to go with a Firewire 400 or 800 HDD as USB might be to slow.

well i have got one but it says something like "this drive cannot be used. macosx cannot boot from this drive" or something along those lines, ive formatted it using disk utility, maybe ive done this wrong then?

Make sure the drive has a GUID Partition Table and not Master Boot Record in Disk Utility.
