Strange question, I know, but I'm curious...

Both are similar in weight and fairly close in size. But when carrying them, which one feels bigger and/or heavier? The MacBook or the MacBook Pro?

I tried testing this myself in an Apple store, but a cord came out and (literally) set off an alarm. A very loud, embarrassing alarm.

EDIT: I'm of course referring to the 15" MBP, not the 17".

I'd say the macbook cause the smaller area to pick up.

That stinks about the alarm!!! I had one go off at walmart while looking at digital cameras :(

Wal-Mart's alarms are pretty bad. So easy to trip. You pull the cord to far and the thing screams at ya! We used to go pull them on purpose when the employees were busy and then we would leave. I know, go ahead and call me a jerk. :D

Theres only .3 lbs difference, I just picked up one of each and they feel the same weight - I can't tell the difference...

I think the MBP feels bigger though (which it obviously is)..

YES, my dad took out the Ethernet cable for some retarded reason and the alarm went off! I was so mad and embarassed! That same time he called the MBP a PC and I yelled at him. Then, he sealed his fate: he said: "I don't see what's so great about this PC" (there's the PC again). A Genius overheard him and just exploded with all these facts for two minutes on why Macs were better. When he was done, I said "Thank you" and he said "Any time." and walked away. :D

I have both a MB and MBP, and the MBP is definitely heavier and bulkier feeling. Then again I have the 17" model.

After owning a 15" MBP and then selling it on eBay and getting a Macbook + $500 cash leftover, I can say from experience that the MB feels much lighter and less bulky than the MBP. It just didn't feel portable, like even though it was a "laptop," it was meant for a desk. :p

The Macbook Pro "feels" lighter because it's bigger but still pretty much the same weight. The Macbook is surprisingly heavy for its size.

well I have a mb and let me tell you this thing is massive, a little hard to carry around and the screen is almost too big to look at, but then I played on a friends much smaller MBP so much easier. I hope that helps ya.

p.s. most small pc laptops are 14.1" MB is 13.3"

I now know what you mean. I finally realize how massive the MB when compared to the MBP.

I own both a MacBook and MacBook Pro.

The MacBook Pro arrived just today as part of a laser etched project I am working on; http://www.geekanoids.co.uk/2007/07/geekanoids-macbook-pro-project.html

The MacBook definitely feels heavier than the MBPro, and I would put this down to the materials used. The MBPro is so smooth, with its sleek lines, that I think this tricks your mind.

Size is pretty different, and the MBPro is without a question a bigger feeling (and physically bigger) laptop.

My macbook feels pretty compact compared to my old 15" powerbook. It also feels a little more...tossable? The 15" was great for work space and never felt too big to me, but I was always aware of its fragility a bit. Was always very careful about where I put it, etc.

I'm still careful about my macbook, but it just feels a bit less fragile to me. I'm not quite so wary about where I leave it, etc. Granted, this might also have something to do with the price difference (but my powerbook was purchased used for less than I paid for my macbook, so...).

Honestly, I'm pretty happy with my macbook size-wise. I didn't lose much pixel space (my PB was a "lo-res" version), though I wouldn't want to do extensive design work on it. It's serviceable for on-the-road design work, perfect for general web surfing and typing docs, etc, and gets plugged into an external for hard-core work. And its nice and easy to move around the apt. with me.

They both feel quite light to me, however, the macbook pro seems pretty light for its size

I don't understand where people are getting this notion of "it feels lighter/heavier." The size of the object doesn't magically change its weight -- the two variables are completely independent. The MacBook Pro is heavier than the MacBook, there is no "well maybe because its bigger" about it. Mass doesn't magically become weightless. One is heavier, the other is lighter. One is bigger, the other is smaller.

Well the mbp for sure is bigger than the mbp and a little heavier...but its thickness like 1 inch only..and mb is thicker!!
but trust me if you have money get the mbp..its really really too small compared to my 15'' siemens laptop...you will not regret it..i saw it/carry it in the store and its really light and doesnt feel bulky!!

the mb has a real bad Vcard..if you wanted a real good display you go with the 15'' mbp,,,

cheers,

There's a difference of only 3 ounces.

A different shape could easily feel like it weighs slightly more or slightly less.
