Like many, I've been holding out for an updated Mac mini to replace two aging and falling apart machines (Power Mac G4 and homebrew PC server). I'd been waiting since early this year, in no rush because my current machines have been running ok; just noisy, slow, and hungry for electricity. The mini, when I get one, will fix all of that.
Then finally I realized I should have just bought one months ago because its resale value on eBay seems to be quite high - usually 80-90% of the original purchase price. "Renting" one for a few months or however long it takes Apple to update sounds like a decent deal with that in mind.
So now I'm close to pulling the trigger. However, I have one concern/question: what hard drive comes in the currently shipping Mac mini? Specifically, the 1.83 GHz C2D model with the 80 GB hard drive.
The reason I ask is that my MacBook has gone through two failed Seagate hard drives before I went with another brand. If the mini's drive is a Seagate of the same family, I won't put anything of value on that drive. In that case, I either immediately buy a replacement drive along with the mini, or keep on waiting.
Anyone with a current Mac mini care to shed some light? The drive info should be in System Profiler (Apple Menu, About This Mac, More Info...) probably under Serial-ATA. Thanks!
