So I wasn’t intending to buy a new iPad as I’ve splurged on iPhone 14 pro and Apple Watch SE and tbh I struggle to see what a new iPad will do kore than my ancient iPad Air 2.

However wife needs a better iPad than her iPad 4 and my air 2 will be fine for her magazines and stuff.

And thing is I can afford any of them but I’m not rich enough not to notice the cost of any of them. My gut is iPad Pro is too much cash for me. But am i wrong.

I use my ipad for. Mainly when my
Phone is charging for things I’d use my phone for. Also better for reading the paper and magazines. Watching tv when travelling. Playing the odd game whilst watching tv (will be glad as my air 2 doesn’t play tropico)

So rationally even the 9th gen will do all that. But the 10th generation is better and will last longer.

But then the air is better and will last even longer.

But then the pro is the best and will last even longer.

But that’s a lot of cash. Start again.

Any advice ?

I don’t think the 10th gen (A14/4GB) will last significantly longer than the 9th gen (A13/3GB). Same goes for 2022 Pro 11 (M2/8GB) versus Air 5/2021 Pro 11 (M1/8GB).

In your shoes, I’d get either 9th gen or Air 5 (leaning towards Air 5). The 9th gen is what I’d choose if you’re okay with upgrading within 2-3 years. Air 5 if you want 5+ years.

Also, how much storage do you need? For me, that will probably be the deciding factor between Air 5 vs Pro 11.

Thinking the air which is €800 versus the pro for €179. Just think I can justify the extra via the 10th gen or 9th gen (my second choice) but not the pro.

Always get a higher storage model if possible, but I don’t think cellular would do much for you.
As for the tier, iPad 9th gen is nice for viewing magazines and whatnot and iPad Air 5th gen is somewhat overkill for that purpose. iPad 10th gen makes no sense (worst iPad in terms of value proposition to date), so does iPad Pro.

yeah I’d agree definitely on the 10th gen and the pro is over kill.
head says 9th gen heart says air and I think it will be the air but storage wise I’ll be taking the basic model As I did with my phone. Got iCloud and don’t see the need for lots of space and the cost of that space is sort of the cost of the next machine up.

Consider a used 2018 or 2020 iPad Pro. If your Air 2 works for you then you don't need more power than that; you will get the nice promotion screen. Should enable to find them used as people start upgrading to the M1 and M2 Pros.

Went with the 9th gen as worsen were inexplicably selling it for €349. €100 less than apple or FNAC. Given I’d ruled out the 10th gen I couldn’t see the benefit of paying another €450 for the air. V happy with it so far.
