Which Ipad - Help me choose!

Well its driving me mad waiting for the Ipad to reach our shores in the UK....but patient I need to be.
What I need to know is with the benefit of knowledge and experience is, if the 3G model came out at the same time would you now on reflection choose a 3G model. If so how much more would it benefit you?

Is 16Gb enough or would 32 or even 64GB only acceptable and why?

Help making my choice will be appreciated.
 
What are you wanting to store?

I went with the 16GB as I don't need my entire iTunes library - only a few tunes and a few flicks. The reason being is because I don't plan to listen to that much music on it - Pandora maybe - and watch a few movies/tv shows.

Your call - only you know what you need to have on it.
 
i decided on the 64gb 3G
I plan on using it with my camera. the raw files are pretty big so it would be good to have a lot of storage.

Also you have to remember the apps for the ipad are significantly larger than the iphone version.
 
I based my decision of getting the 64GB 3G version on my current 32GB iPhone 3GS. With the music, apps and pictures on my phone I have about 7GB left. I figured the iPad apps are bigger, I will probably load more pictures on it and have roughly the same amount of music (actually less since I've already created a playlist for my iPad).

This is just my two cents and keep in mind my music is all Apple Lossless (ALAC).
 
How long are you going to keep it?

I've seen my desktop computers swell in storage from MB to TB. If you want longevity for you iPad, you can be sure apps/files/media will consume more space. Either buy big now, buy small and be slelective on what you store, or buy small and expect to need to upgrade.

The only reason for having 32 or 64 GB is music, photos, and most of all movies. Are you happy with 50 hours of music, four or five movies and a few photos, remembering that you can switch the music and movies at any time? In that case, 16 GB is enough. Do you want 100 hours of music and 15 movies at a time? Take 32 GB. If you want more, take 64 GB.

The 3G is a matter of what you do, and what the cost is. You have internet connection at home, and at work, and at some WiFi hotspots. How often do you need the internet elsewhere? And nobody knows yet how much 3G will cost; you'll have to wait for that until you can make a decision.
 
I got the 16gb, as I want to upgrade right away when the v2 comes out.

Also I am planning to just put 3gb worth of music on it, a bunch of games and apps, 1gb worth of family photos. And a movie or two when I leave the house.
When I am at the house or connected to a wifi or future 3g connection, then I will just steam movies from my computer, and use vnc apps etc. My iPad get's here to Costa Rica on the 22nd Can't wait!

Don't want to steal the thread, but I am buying some apps right now, and what are your guys thoughts on minigore?? Looks like a cool game, but how are the controls?

I have a 64gig, currently using 30 gig for movies i hadnt watched, a ton photos, ton of music, feel really good about having spare 32gig for new apps as they come out and a mass of pdf i plan to load up and of Avatar when it comes out.
 
The storage issue is a matter of what content you want to carry.

Deciding between the 3G and the WiFi models is tough. Having a constant internet connection on this thing would be awesome. However I already have an iPhone and I don't realy want to double up on 3G service. If I didn't have a smartphone I'd pick the 3G in a heartbeat, the internet is just so much more useful on the large screen. It is almost painful going back to my iphone after using the ipad.
 
If the 3G wasn't an extra 130 then I would of went for the 3G 64GB version but I got the 64GB instead. I would recommend getting the 64GB because it's always better to have extra space than not have enough. I have 15GB of free space left on my iPad due to having 16 2GB 720p movies. With a 32GB, I wouldn't of been able to have a big library of movies.
 
I'm in the 32 or 64 choice. I looked at a demo at the store and it was a 16GB but only listed 14GB of space before things loaded on it. Not sure if the OS and default apps figure in there. But I want to be able to load 10 movies on it or more so that I can have one or two to watch as well as a bunch for the kids on trips and such. Music will almost none. Photos, not that much, and then apps. $600 for the 32GB sounds good, not sure I can justify another $100 to double the space again.
 
Thanks for the thoughtful reply guys you have helped me make a decision.

Why have 3G when there is limited use for it and having to pay the extra roaming charge is slightly taking the biscuit.

Why not compromise slightly and wit until I am sure significantly improved version 2.

I think the 32GB Wifi is a good cost to hardware ratio (me thinks hope I dont change my mind again!):confused:
 
Don't know if it helps, but I'm getting wifi 32gb. I'll have it at home a lot and don't mind using my mac and external hard drives for storage. And I won't need 3g. plenty of wifi, and I have it at home, at work and at most of the coffee shops I go to. And I don't need an extra bill coming in. Good luck.
 
Ok I persoNally went with a 64gb version since I want to store all my media. So far, when Im at home I use it to play music. I've also loaded movies and tv shows on it and I still have more space so 64 is the way to go.
 
I was totally decided upon the 16 GB but when I went to the store I got a 32 GB. Always better to plan for a little extra storage. I'm not even going to put a ton of media on it or anything and I still got scared lol.

Get 16GB if you don't have much in the way of Apps, Films and Music, 32GB if you have a few and 64GB if you have lots.

I am going for the 64GB so then with the next iPhone I can get 8GB (if still sold, 32GB if not). It is gonna be sweet :D
 
i went in with the intention of buying a 16gb but walked out with a 32gb. I am glad I did as well. I rather have piece of mind that I won't have storage issues when better/larger apps start coming. Also I do not have to limit what I put on the iPad. Being that the OS is already about 3 gigs, that takes off a nice chunk of the 16gb unit out of the box.
 
16GB because you can stream everything from your PC/Mac to it anyway, and keep everything stored on a reasonably priced hard drive. I cant justify spending $200 for 48 more GB.
 
3G vs wi-fi; Thoughts on differences in heating sensitivity?

Grant it, the 3G is only slightly heaver ( a few ounces with a few more components inside for the receiver stuff ) ... But not knowing what all is involved, would these extra components ADD TO the overheating issue?

Or, would it make such little difference that it would be insignificant?

Thanks for any useful input, or guesses based on content.

Depends on where you'll be using it. Do you travel a lot? I'll be taking a two week trip in mid-May so I'm getting the 64 gig model and fill it up with movies for the long flights and also to have plenty of room for photos and some game apps. If you'll mostly be using it at home then you can probably get away with smaller size.

Just remember, you can never be too rich or too thin or have too much memory :p.
 
I'm getting the 64GB 3G model. If my past experiences taught me anything, it would be that one can never have too much memory.
 
I'd say minimum 32GB. I won't put music or probably even movies on my iPad but we don't know what's coming down the pike in iPad apps that might take space and you can't upgrade the storage.
 
Get the 64 gb. Not only will you have more storage for the future, but your resale value will likely be higher. Of course you paid more for it to begin with...the real issue is that if you have $500 to spend to begin with, $700 is not that astronomically different. iPad users are by and large privileged folks, so you might as well go all the way. The $200 will not be missed 6 months from now, whereas you will wish you bought bigger storage a year from now.

Not that much more - try 40%, that is significant!
