Which iPad is the Latest Now? I'm Confused

Hi,
I'm learning how to use the iPad to create digital work for my business. My iPad is kinda old and I'm looking for an iPad Pro but I'm a little confused so I would like to know which one is the latest?

There are so many iPads and iPhones out, I can't keep up with what's new. There's iPad, iPad Pro- there's 10.5" and then there's 9". And also is it a good time to get an iPad now? Usually I don't wait for new releases because often the upgrades are minimal and the price is way exaggerated but (again) since I don't keep up, I don't know whether waiting would be a good option.

I bought an iPad 10.5 cover by mistake recently so was hoping the new one would be a 10.5" since the cover is expensive and pretty decent.

Any tips?

You can get a summary of when models were released and where they are in their release cycle here One thing to note about the buyer's guide is that all of the recommendations of if you should buy or not are based on the average amount of time between refreshes of that particular model and as a result may not be completely accurate since no one knows apple's future plans.

Since you said you are looking for an iPad Pro (The main difference besides the screen size is apple pencil support although there are others) that would leave you with either a 10.5" or the 12.9" model. These models will likely see an update in the fall, but if you need it now you may be better off buying rather than waiting.

As for the other models you have the iPad which is the 9" screen and Apple's lower cost model, and the iPad mini which given the time since the last update is likely dead.

The iPad Pro 10.5in and 12.9in were released in June 2017 so more than a year ago. They have better screens and Smart Keyboard support.

The regular iPad 9.7in was released in March 2018 and Apple Pencil support was added to it. It's much cheap than the iPad Pro.

Ah, I see now that they did add that. It seems to take away a bit of the selling point of the pro then.

The one I have is actually a 9" that's why I was confused. I bought it in 2016. It came before the 10.5. I was confused cuz they came up with a 9" again.

I actually had the mini and was very happy with it but now that I'm using the iPad for graphics/drawing, the mini is obviously too small and the 12" is too big to carry around. I think the 10" is a good size.

What would you go for? I know the iPad supports the pencil now but in terms of a good system that can withstand graphics and editing and stuff like that, isn't the Pro better

The 10.5 is the same size as a Composition notebook. Its pretty light too. You get a little more landscape with the 10.5 than you would on the 9' tablet.

There is a rumor that the iPad Mini will be updated this year.

Thank you. I went with the 10.5. It's not a big difference like you said but you're right it does help when sketching. I feel the extra little spaciousness already.

You might want to check this out. It details the MANY differences between the two iPad versions. Most notably are 120MHz screen, four speakers, and anti-reflective screen.
