I need a new iPad. I do have one lying at home (iPad gen 6) but I think it is not sufficient for my purpose.
What I need is one which can be used to write with a pencil (stylus). I should be able to take notes, writing calculations etc. I don't need a lot of power like people use heavy apps. As my main devices are iPhone and Mac, I don't want to spend a lot of money on a device which I will be using for an hour or two per week.
I appreciate your help.

iPad 10 WiFi + Apple Pencil USB-C

I would advise a nice case for those, Apple makes quality ones which are worth the money. There are other options of course, just pick one the you like and has enough protection for the iPad and has place to hold the pencil.

I would go with an iPad Air or refurbished iPad Pro M2. Both are total overkill but are priced decently and should have enough power to last for years. Base storage should be sufficient. The 10th gen base iPad is cheaper but the Air and Pro have nicer screens.

iPad mini is a nice size as a "digital notepad" too, and the mini 7 comes with 128GB storage. Some good deals to be had on mini 6's I'm sure, now that the 7 is out.

Any iPad on sale today can work with a pencil. Pick the one that you’re most comfortable with after checking them out in person.

Sounds like thr iPad mini 7 covers all the particular needs of yours.
My m1 iPad Pro serves me no real purpose so I’m excited for my mini 7 to arrived on Wednesday!

Refurbished Pro is still much more expensive than iPad. Can iPad recognise handwriting and convert into normal text?

Kottu –

If I'm not mistaken, the feature for converting handwriting to written text ("Scribble") system-wide is available on every iPad that runs iOS 14 and later, which includes the 6th-generation iPad when using the first version of the Apple Pencil. It might be worth reviewing how to use Scribble in case your current iPad could indeed still work for you?

If somehow it doesn't, then – while you can, if you want maximum longevity – you certainly don't need to buy a current-generation iPad to get what you're describing; you can likely find a lower price for a used or new iPad released later than 2018 but before recently.

Bought an iPad 10 gen and Apple Pencil. This combo is sufficient for my needs. Thanks! After I paired Pencil with iPad, the keyboard while using Safari became smaller and floating. When I am on other apps, I can make the keyboard smaller and larger with fingers but not possible while using Safari. Any ideas?
