Hi all,

I'm stuck with deciding which iPad I should purchase for my mum as a gift for Christmas, she is currently using a 2014 air which is slow and laggy. My original idea was to buy the new base iPad model (with the understanding it would hopefully be somewhat re-designed) but upon its release announcement I'm not sure if it is worth £500, especially for somebody who will use it for basic web browsing, social media and some games.

I could look at the 2021 iPad for £300 from John Lewis but I do feel like the older design is dated. Is the new base model worth £200 more? is the A13 to A14 much of an actual jump? I am also thinking about looking for a 4th generation iPad air from 2020/2021 as the specs seem quite similar but with more memory for a similar price as the new base model.

The new releases and price increases here in the UK have made it quite difficult to decide which options are best! Not to mention I was also planning on buying a new Air for my girlfriend...

Based on her basic use, I'd just go with the cheapest one, which will still be much faster than her 8 year old iPad.
