In my opinion, although Apple makes a huge deal every keynote, each camera upgrade after every year is not that noticeable. But that's understandable because they are pushing the limit.

Those who upgrade iPhones a lot, which iPhone has the best improvement over previous year.

for me it's the iPhone 11, i don't even own it, but i know that year, apple introduced night mode, huge difference

It’s really just opinions based on devices one owned, but I thought the iPhone 4 was a giant improvement.

iPhone 8 and iPhone X were released at the same time, so depending on your upgrade path you could say the jump from iPhone 7 (2016) to iPhone X (2017), or you could say the jump from iPhone 8 (2017) to iPhone XR (2018).

iPhone XS to iPhone 11 Pro was pretty significant.

iPhone 4 to iPhone 4s may have been the biggest. That’s when the iPhone camera finally became respectable and people started ditching their standalone digital cameras.

Whatever phone first released with night mode. That was a game changer from the previous iteration.

4 to 4s due to 1080p video recording
6 to 6s due to 4k video recording
6s plus to 7 plus due to telephoto and portrait mode
X to XS due to smart HDR
XS to 11 pro due to night mode

I don’t know. I’m a layman in terms of iPhone cameras. I really enjoyed the 12PM camera system as compared to the 13PM.
Just curious. What did you find you liked better in the 12PM than the 13PM? I'm considering the 12PM due to the issues with the 13PM camera system.

What I stated already

The 12 pro max has a great camera system. But I don’t find it better than my 13 pro max. I passed my 12 pro max to my wife when I got my 13. I find the biggest difference in night mode, my 13 is definitely ahead with picture quality on night mode pictures. The ultra wide is a lot more useful in night mode

Thanks for the response. How does the amount of over processing (oil painting effect) compare between the 12PM and the 13PM?

If we look beyond pure specs:

The 4th brought ye Facecam
8plus cometh with the Double back camera
X Bestowth FaceID/Better Facecam
11pro Camera Gaveth 3lenses cluster/NightMode

The rest is smoke and mirrors.

I find it can sometimes be too aggressive to use night mode but in those situations I just turn it off. Easy enough to do right in the camera app

But overall very satisfied with the photos
