So I have an iPhone XR and when I'm wired for CarPlay, I almost always have disconnects, especially after getting 3D maps. I've tried all the online solutions. By accident I found out the almost certain cause. Not enough RAM from the 3 GB in the XR. If I force close all my apps and reboot the iPhone before or while physically connected, it will always reconnect and stay connected for that trip. If I close my apps or just disconnect-reconnect the cable, without rebooting, it'll disconnect again in minutes or seconds.
I'll bet if my theory is correct, it doesn't matter if you connect by wire or Bluetooth.
I have the opportunity to upgrade to a 13, Pro or Pro Max model at a substantial discount after the 14 launch from a friend who works in retail and that's my plan. However, if I can get away with the 13 (4 GB) vs 13 Pro (6 GB), I'll probably do that. The 14 line isn't worth it for me.
I separated responses by your CarPlay experience and models by RAM. Thanks very much.
EDIT: Argh, I made typos, the iPhone SE 2nd gen is Spring 2020, not 2022. I don't seem to be able to change the options after the first vote has been cast.
EDIT: The two cut off options (2 & 5) are iPhone 11 Pro and Pro Max. First attempt at a poll. Next time, will put just numbers in the choices and in the writeup put the long answers.
