I've ordered the solo with 1 gb of memory...am I better off with the duo and 512 or the solo and 1 gb? cant do duo and 1 gb. Thanks!

I would go for the solo with 1gb. I think the difference in 1gb and 512mb is greater than the difference in solo and duo.
It depends what your needs are. In addition to the upgraded processor, the Duo model also adds a larger hard drive and the SuperDrive. If you expect to burn DVDs (and don't have or don't want to get an external burner) or you expect to have a lot of media files, the Duo might be a better option.
If all you want is an entry-level machine for surfing, word processing, and average iTunes usage, the Solo with the upgraded RAM will be a terrific machine.

Yep not playing any games really except web based poker...surfing the net..listening to music (not a large collection) emailing etc. Dont need the DVD burner either. Just worry about it getting obsolete fast. So reccomdend solo 1gb?

Yeah just because there are a lot of dual core processors doesn't mean the Core Solo is a bad choice. The 1.5ghz Mini is no slouch by any regards, I have a Toshiba Portege M200 Tablet with a 1.6ghz Pentium M & 512mb RAM and it is amazingly quick for me. The newer, more robust Core Solo with 1gb of RAM is a fine choice. Buy whatever you can afford
I thought the Minis had socketed processors, so it's possible to upgrade later?

I think the Duo is a better buy. If you can only get it with 512, then do so. A 1GB memory module can be added later for less than $100. That would give you 1.25GB since you will remove one 256mb module.

Are you buying the 1 GB from Apple? If so don't. They overcharge an extreme amount, and you could get the core duo with a third party's RAM for at a comparable price.
