I have a 14" iBook G4 right now that I'm going to give to my grandpa in exchange for a new computer. That's where the trouble enlies. Here's what I'll be doing:

I will be living in an apartment most of the time (in New York City technically), but I will be traveling to my family in suburban Minneapolis a lot. It isn't necessary 100% that I need to bring a computer with me, but it'd be helpful. I will be mostly just surfing the web and listening to music, and maybe a little photo editing with photoshop. I am debating between a Mac Mini, which I would need a display with, but I wouldn't take the display with when I go to Minnesota; an iBook, but I already have one and I'd want a superdrive; and an iMac, which I wouldn't be able to easily take with me. Someone please decide for me and give me any upgrades I should do.

Stuck in the middle with you
I know they do make bags for Imacs, so they are (sort of) portable. Although if you're flying between these places you wouldn't really want to put it in the baggage hold, and it won't fit as a carryon. If you get another ibook, there's always the guilt of Giving your grandpa a used ibook in exchange for a brand new one. If you can just leave a monitor at both locations (or have access to one) the mac mini is small enough to just tuck into a carryon so you know it's safe. I'd say you should go for a mini with a big hard drive and a SD.

15" PowerBook.

Its exactly what you want for a home portable computer (bit more pricey than the 14" iBook). Or the 12" PB. Of course wait until after the January Mac announcement (around the 10th or so).
