Today I went to check some Android tablets to replace my Nexus 10. Main reason is its too big and uncomfortable to hold in both ways.

I was pleasantly surprised by the Note 8.0. The form factor is almost perfect. Great screen size, really thin and light, good software features, screen resolution OK, etc.

Right now it's my main choice to replace my Nexus 10. Maybe I could try to wait for the next model, but that could be too long.

The Nexus 7 is out of the equation after checking how small the screen is for just about everything. Too small for web browsing, PDF, videos and gaming. The gaming aspect could be even worse due to the on screen buttons, making my fingers have to go more up on the screen and thus being uncomfortable.

Almost all 10 inch tablets felt too big and clumsy. I tried the iPad and it felt so big. Didn't remember feeling that uncomfortable when I had the iPad 1. The mini was perfect, but I just want Android on my tablet.

I think I just don't like big tablets anymore. 8 inch seems to be the sweet spot.

There's a LG 8 inch tablet coming out next month with full HD screen, but then again LG for updates is worst than Samsung.

Also the Note 8.0 costs almost as my Nexus 10 did! Too expensive.

Tried some Archos and it was very poor. The Note 10 also too big. The Samsung tabs too small.

I wish there were more high quality 8 inch tablets. Only thing holding me back with the Note 8.0 is the screen resolution, but I just don't know if the next one will improve in this regard. Just check how bad the specs of the tab series is year after year.

The iPad mini with the HD screen will be a very very cool device, but iOS... Great for gaming, web browsing, PDF viewing and good apps, but just doesn't work like a computer with file manager and all.

So which Android tablet do you guys think is the best right now? Which one do you have and how do you like it?

Your post sums it up nicely--there isn't that ideal tablet out there yet, IMO. Each seems to have a few nice traits but still too many flaws. I thought the Nexus 7 might have finally nailed it but I agree with you--the display is too small. Stretch it out an inch and I'd be happy. Give it a 4:3 display ratio like the Mini and I'd be ecstatic.

Exactly. The Nexus 7 is AWESOME, except for the aspect ratio. I could handle the 7" screen...

I wonder if Google will sell a Nexus 10 v2.

Yeah if the nexus 7 was actually 7.9" same as the mini it would sky rocket in sales. The aspect ratio for me for anything other than watching video (and a lot of videos (old TV shows) I watch are still 4:3) is less than ideal for me personally.

There are better android tablets on the market in terms of screen resolution and processing power but u I like my galaxy tab 2 10.1. It's a good all round general purpose tablet.

It's been confirmed that they are working on a new Nexus 10

I still say the Nexus 7 is the best android tablet for me. It's the best bang for the buck. I've never really liked some of the gimmicks that some tablets come with.
Once you go Nexus you don't go back(except if you own a Galaxy Nexus which is another story haha)

Still trying to decide.

Right now I'm more into the Tab 3 8.0. It's almost the same as the Note 8.0 except for the stylus, which I don't need. I won't pay 100$ more just to get 500MB RAM more, quad core and the stylus.

Problem is this obsession we Android fans have with updates and nexus. Doesn't make sense to keep a tablet you find uncomfortable (Nexus 10) just for the updates and stock android. But then again I'd be changing a powerful tablet for a low end one... even though I want that 8 inch form factor.

"It's the same except the stylus, the processor, and the RAM" would be a much more accurate thing. I don't get why anyone would buy a Galaxy Tab 3 of any size to be honest.

For android tablets i've used just 2. Galaxy 10.1 and the nexus 7.
I like the pen on the 10.1( thought it was too small though). Touchwiz ruined everything as always.

The Nexus 7 wins by a long mile.

It would not be something define. I would keep it just until something truly good came out in the 8 inch form factor.

It's cheap, so I can keep money for whenever a better one comes out. There's really no 8 inch tablet with Full HD screen that I know. LG is supposed to announce one at IFA, but I would prefer the Samsung one unless the LG has high end hardware.

What other choices are in the 8 inch market that have high end specs? There's not one. The Note 8.0 doesn't count for me because of lack of Full HD screen.

The Asus Eee Pad Transformer is the best tablet for me. The reason is that it has the best keyboard dock for any tablet. In addition to being a keyboard, its hinged dock connector allows the tablet to be set at any angle. This is very handy when working on tables of different heights or on my lap. Also, it is great if I want to watch a video and set the angle of the screen to the most comfortable viewing angle for the situation. The keyboard dock also has a secondary battery pack. It can last about 15 hours on a fully charged tablet and keyboard dock battery. The dock also has full size USB connectors for thumb drives and a full size SD Card slot. The SC Card slot is handy for transferring pictures from my digital camera's SD card to my tablet for sharing on social networks.

An Acer Ibonia B1 form-factor Nexus would probably be ideal for some.

Same hardware as the 2013 nexus, high ppi display, 8 inch form factor.

EDIT:

Personally for me, the Galaxy Mega has replaced my Nexus 7 2012 usage completely.

the samsung galaxy tab 3 8.0 is great, it truly fulfills my needs, although it's a bit pricey, believe me it's totally worth it.:)

I really wish there was a high end 8 inch Android tablet. So much for choice in Android and in 2013 we still don't have high resolution screens in the 8 inch market.

How long are we gonna have to wait? Don't manufacturers see the success of the iPad mini?

After the Nexus 10 I'm completely out of the 10 inch tablet market. 7 is too small. The Nexus 7 would be almost perfect, but reading PDFs in that screen is almost impossible.

Samsung is going to announce two high end tablets at IFA, but they are 10 and 12 inch. Let's see who else brings something good in smarter size.

I also read the rumor of an HP Slate Pro 8, with 250 ppi, microSD, Tegra 4 at 1.8 and 2GB RAM, with 4.2.2, but we all know that device won't get any future updates... Not even one.

Maybe Asus will come to the rescue.

Ah, caught in the resolution trap.

But, seriously, we don't actually need a full HD 8" tablet. Then again, the Nexus 7 has a full HD so it'll happen.

It really sucks cuz android tablets have a whole lot of potential, but I haven't really seen a good 10 inch or 8 inch one and 7 I feel is too small. If only android could solve its update problems and optimize more apps, then it would be perfect. That being said, nexus 7 is still the best I see even if it is a little too small.

We really "need" 1080p screen tablets as the text is much sharper, it is less stressful for the eyes while reading.
