Which is the best looking laptop?

Hi,

Just curious as to the various opinions out there. I've had pretty much all the different powerbooks after the pismo, and I was wondering what you thought was the best looking laptop that you have seen or experienced. The sony vaios are definitely attractive. But what else?

In terms of Apple laptops, I think that even though the aluminum line is nice, I must say that I really like the titanium line better, especially when the titanium powerbook is in good condition with no flaking paint, etc. The thinness makes it unique, even today, and i really like the contrast of the silver and dark keyboard. After that, I think the 17" powerbook is simply in a class of its own. I never really cared for the ibook g4 line, I always felt that they looked a little cheap.

So what's your opinion? regardless of performance, specs, etc., what's the best portable that has caught your eye?

17" Powerbook all the way. It just looks so classy.

For non Apple laptops, I would have to say that Sony's are probably the nicest. All the other ones, are either really cheap looking, or really think and clunky like IBMs.

I think the 12'' PB is very the best. No extra spaces on the side of the keyboard. compact and to the point, no funny business. That said though its not perfect, it could go on a bit of a diet. ( Just a little to thick.)

The Aluminum PB are much nice than the TiBooks, no exterior hinges, or flaking paint.

My favorite is the 12" AlBook, but maybe that's because I had one. For non-Apple laptops, I think Sony's look the best. I must say that Dell laptops are awful looking. They look cheap, clunky and old-fashioned, even brand new ones.

Whatever my current notebook is. So the best looking notebook currently is Apples PowerBook G4 15" AL.

I have to agree, all powerbooks, particularly 15 and 17, followed by the voodoo feather weight, followed by the Thinkpad T42.

I used to think sony's were the tip top, but after seeing them in person time and time again, they just don't look that good...

Pismo is definitely a nice machine also. Sadly I just sold mine last week. I'm definitely fully enjoying my titanium now. The widescreen is just alot easier for me to use. Plus with the thinness and how it is light, it's just nice to use and carry around.

The titanium was really innovative in terms of design when it first came out, and it really holds its own in terms of design in today's world of laptops. This is of course, minus the paint flaking and other cosmetic issues. Gratefully, my titanium is in beautiful condition and is much better looking than most laptops out in the market today.

Whenever I see the sony vaio t and s series, I'm always impressed with how nice they look also. The t (10.6 widescreen) series may be a little too small for everyday use, but the s series (13.3 widescreen) looks like an absolute dream, and I have to put that as the most enticing laptop out there.

Some of the HP's and Compaq's look nice also (especially the 14" widescreen models), but I can't just stand the creaking plastics when I pick them up. Unfortunately I have the same experience with the ibooks.

Current 14" iBook, , followed by 15" PowerBook. I think the proportions are weird on all the other sizes. 17" P'Book looks like a pancake, while the 12"s are too thick and look funny with no space around the keyboard.

As to PC laptops, none look good due to the "Designed for Microsoft Windows" stickers.

I prefer the 12" iBook to the 14" - I don't like all that white plastic around the keyboard, I love the 17" but I think the spaces either side of the KB are a bit much as well, a bigger keyboard would've been cool. I love the 12" PowerBook, it's quite noticeably smaller than the 12" iBook and just looks very svelte, the 15" is a perfect size and the 17" is just overpoweringly cool. Yup, the 14" just doesn't look right to me.

Damn fine machine though, wish I had a SuperDrive in my 12" iBook, then it would be perfect.

I actually prefer the look of the iBook over the PowerBook and I agree with Chundles in that the 14 inch doesn't quite do it for me as much as the 12 inch. There's something great about the uniquely white form-factor, it's just so clean.

Of course, they all come after the Barbie™ laptop.

I love the way the 15" aluminum PBs look, close second is the 12" alum. PBs... then the 12" iBook.

when it comes to looks, i have to put my vote in for....

g3 ibook 'ice'.

want the details from a designer's point of view?
-stunning case finish
-really clever seam between the polycarbonate case and the pressed alu plate (wrist support & trackpad area)
-stunning satin anodized finish on the 'plate' (now a cheaper plasic on the g4 ibooks, that gets messy)
-clever sleep monitor light solution
-metal finish on the hinge (no longer on the ib g4)
-white translucent keypad
-metal finish on the adapter plug

i think one of the only things wrong with the current g4 ibook, is that they took a big step backwards in finish from the earlier model.

Depends on what kind of look you're going for. Proffesional look I'd go with one of those small new sony's or the 12 PB. For a more fun, youthful look I think the ibook is the best.

I'm sorry but you're wrong as well as mad dude because this was clearly the pinnacle of design goodness in that range. Plus it is dual core. I say we have a photoshop shootout.
