Which is the best Mac browser?

There are lots of people that think that Safari is the best browser for the Mac, but I think it is Camino. It is much faster than Safari and IE and is also compatible with more websites than Safari. I think Safari is getting to be the worst browser since it is very slow on my PB G4 550.
 
I used Chimera a lot (yes, chimera, as i hated the version 0.70 bookmark system i got stuck with february builds), and after v71 mainly Safari (and Links).
 
I agree .. it's a tossup... I love both the new Safari 1.0 and Camino 0.7. Safari generally has a faster feel and seems to be less sluggish in performing regular program tasks (ie. opening and closing tabs), but Camino renders pages so perfecly.

Safari still has a long way to go to achieve perfect page rendering, but I think it's come a long way in such a short period of time.

So which browser is my primary browser? Safari. Which browsers are in my dock? Safari and Camino! :)

Get a nightly. 0.7 blows compared to the latest nightlies (it's based on 1.0 code instead of 1.5 code)
 
I hope the events surrounding the demise of IE Mac and AOL's adoption of embedded IE don't mean the end of the Netscape/Mozilla/Camino browsers. I also hope that Safari's success doesn't narrow the rest of the field too far. I like having a choice between real alternatives!

So far I like Camino best, primarily because it's got a bookmark interface that I like. Being able to just click and drag a link into the right bookmark folder without opening a separate window just makes me happier somehow. It's faster than Mozilla too.

I'd been waiting for Safari to hit 1.0 before seriously trying it, but then again, I don't like the pop-up bookmark window. So perhaps not.

I really really hate having to use IE at work, on Win 2000 Pro. Another advantage of tabbed browsing: Hide your browser quickly when someone walks in, without having to hide each little bitty window. one. by. one.
 
1st: Safari
2nd: Camino
3rd: Omniweb

4th: Netscape
5th: Mozilla
6th: rest

last: Explorer

I use Safari about 95% of the time. Still some sites/scripts don't work correctly. Almost the rest of the time it's Camino.
 
too bad for all of you camino lovers out there:
camino has recently (after version 0.7.0) been completely rebuilt from the ground up, and none of the latest nightly builds work on panther.
 
I use Safari most of the time, and Camino when something doesn't work or Safari is just pissing me off that day. You know, those bad technology karma days.

I HATE OmniWeb - always have, so my third place award goes to Netscape, believe it or not. Download version 7.1 - lightyears faster than 7.0, though still not as fast as Safari or Camino.

you can't ask developers to suppport an OS that isn't even beta yet.

I totally agree, and I can't believe OmniWeb is a PAY browser .. get a clue :rolleyes: and it's not even fast
 
I like safari and it has better java support then IE did and it works for online banking to (my wife uses it for that)... Safari IMO but I havnt tried camio so who know, safari gets the job done for me though
 
I liked Safari, before the 'Final Release'. it was quick, light, and worked most of the time. this version's hardly an improvement.

I hate to say it, but i like IE as well, but doesn't look like it'll be around much longer. Regardless of what you think of MS, Explorer is a pretty decent product.

IE5/Mac was a good browser for its time. It had decent CSS support, full PNG support and Text Zoom (the latter two don't even work right on IE5-6/Win). Unfortunately, it has lagged in bringing about better performance and up-to-date CSS support and is left in the dust by any current Moz browsers and Safari, and the new OmniWeb.
 
I use Safari most of the time. Works great for most of the websites I visit. Camino .7 just sits in my dock until I come across a website that I can't use in Safari (Continental.com is one example I remember offhand) .. and I have to have bloated Mozilla 1.4 because that's the only browser for Mac (besides Netscape .. yuck) that supports my school's certificate authentication.

that site seems to work fine in Safari 1.0 over here... what's the problem with it?

i used to be a big Chimera buff (hated Camino, they took the cmd-down combo to get to the bottom of the page out and it pissed me off....) but i ended up caving and using Safari as it became more useful... pretty much when tabs came.
 
I use Camino mostly, as it is a bit faster than Safari. They both have bad Flash players, and then I have to switch to :eek: Internet Explorer!

In Camino, cmd+down still takes you to the end of the page, and cmd+up take you to the top.

they must have finally put it back. chimera used to do it, and then the first version of camino took it out, and i have stopped following the nightlies. Safari works fine for all the sites i go to.

I don't think it will:

Look at the situation. Microsoft is embedding IE in Windows, killing MacIE. AOL does business on both sides, Mac and Windows. So AOL will adopt embedded WinIE, but will have no choice but to keep using Netscape/Mozilla on Mac.

Also, Mozilla is open source.

(On a related note, AOL funds Mozilla, I think. The situation is getting more and more confusing.)
 
I never used Chimera, but when I got my first mac (Nov 2002), i used IE...and then when Safari was announced, I immedately downloaded it, and I loved it. So I use safari, and IT IS the best browser.
