the first type will work not without problems if you at any point decide to to put the Macbook Air into some kind of case/shell.
Depending on the connections it offers and what you connect to it, such hubs can become quite warm/hot. In that case the “cabled” one will transmit much less heat to you MBA.
There are models available where you can detach/exchange the cable which connects the hub to the MBA, allowing to accommodate even further for a variety of scenarios.
