I'm replacing an old Windows laptop with a new one and need to make sure that I keep a previous iPhone backup that I have saved in iTunes.
Right now, that backup, shows up as it should when I click Preferences and then click the Devices tab. It lists the iPhone model and the date the backup was made.

So, I want to make sure that iTunes on the new PC will show (and contain) that previous backup from the iPhone.

Which folders do I need to copy from the old PC onto the new PC to make sure that the backup that I want will show up in the "new" iTunes on the new PC?

Thanks!

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\Backup

This is the default location (for windows 7 and newer). Copy paste it inside your explorer window and you should see folders with numbers and letters. Copy the backup folder as-is to an external drive and you can paste it to your new computer. The target address should be

%USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\MobileSync\

You'll want to get the entire folders regarding Apple or iTunes moved to make your iTunes like it was before. This might include some other Apple software settings and data. But that won't hurt anything. Edit: You may not have all these folders. AppData is a hidden folder.

  • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\AppleComputer\
  • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Local\Apple\
  • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\AppleComputer\
  • %USERPROFILE%\AppData\Roaming\Apple\
  • %USERPROFILE%\Music\iTunes\
Get these copied before you install iTunes in the new PC.

Note that %USERPROFILE%\Music\iTunes\ is the default location of your iTunes database and library. If you've changed these locations. You need to move them from wherever they were on your old PC to the same location on your new PC or fix it after starting iTunes. Few people ever change this. Some people with large libraries might be using a second drive for the library. If the new PC doesn't have this. You'll need to correct the library location on the new PC but keep the folder and file structure within the library the same.

If your music might be scattered all over your computer. Consolidate your library before moving to the new PC.

Also, update iTunes on the old PC before doing anything else.
