Ok, so there are now a few Jailbreak programs available and looks like all can also unlock (and I do stand corrected from early predictions of doom).

That said, which JB makes the most sense to use? I have a Mac and a PC.

Does it matter to keep the baseband intact or just upgrade to 3.1.2 and Blackrain.

I thought I would look for the consensus opinion since so many have done some sort of at this point.

I am also thinking about resale value of the phone should an oLed version arrive next July.

Thanks

If you're thinking about resale value and you have the 4.26.08 baseband, you should definitely use PwnageTool to create a custom firmware. Since you don't mention unlocking at this point, I assume you are with an official carrier. You should make sure to uncheck the "Activate" option in expert mode so that PT won't create a hacktivated firmware.

Resale is increased with unlock so it is a factor... But if other tools can now unlock the newer baseband do I need to stay on 4.26.08?

Blacksn0w (the 5.11.07 unlock) has caused problems for some people. And keeping 4.26.08 expands options. The more options you have, the higher the resale value. Certainly it's not as essential as it was before blacksn0w was released, but I'm sure there are people out there willing to pay extra for a phone with 4.26.08.

Why would he go through all that trouble to preserve the baseband when the newer baseband can be unlocked so easily? Makes no sense at all.

OP upgrade to 3.1.2 and jailbreak & unlock with blackra1n/blacksn0w. It works flawlessly and you won't have to go through all that trouble.

I haven't read of any issues with the blacksn0w unlocked. I have unlocked 2 iPhones and no problem at all.

For many people, blacksn0w causes frequent loss of WiFi among other things. Musclenerd recommends sticking with 4.26.08 if at all possible, and I can't think of anyone whose judgment in this area I'd trust more.

For your payment you will get a CD with Blackra1n, Pwnage Tool and Ultrasn0w on it.

You must not spend much time reading posts here, even though you have been registed awhile.

Here is a sample rip off site

I just wasn't sure if it was some other way to unlock.
Sorry if I get confused by the numerous and varying advice here.
It's hard to keep track of Blackra1n, Blacksn0w, Pwnage, ultrasn0w, redsn0w. Quickpwn, etc...
