Hello everyone,

I'm Dario, nice to meet you all!

I'm a web developer primarily working with PHP, databases, and creating graphics using Canva and Illustrator. Over the past year, I've also dabbled in Flutter to develop a small application.

I've always used a Windows PC, but now that I'm moving out of my city, I need to purchase a laptop. I'm considering switching to a MacBook and would appreciate your advice on which model to choose.

Here are the software applications I use regularly:

  • Visual Studio Code
  • Xcode (for Flutter)
  • Discord
  • Canva
  • Photoshop
  • Illustrator
  • League of Legends
  • Filezilla
  • Navicat
Which MacBook would you recommend for my needs?

Thank you in advance for your suggestions!

Best regards, Dario

MacBook Pro 16-icnh, M3 Max chip with 128GB of RAM and 8TB of storage. Get it with Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro preinstalled, because you need to create trailers for your apps for the App Store

Funny bro 😘😘😘

What's your budget?

How long do you expect to use the system?

Will you only use the builtin display, or do you have (or expect to have) external displays? How many, how big, etc.?

1800-2000€

5/6 years

Built in + 1 external 32 inch 4k

If you're switching to MacBook because of battery life, take note that most PC laptops now use usb c for power and you can buy phone battery packs to power them. If it's because of macOS, you have to pay the apple premium/tax.

That model was discontinued a year and a half ago, but 24/1TB is good spec. Is is new-old stock, or 2nd hand? Warranty?

If you want a workhorse that will do what you have stated and last for many years, then either buy that M2 MBPro promo with 24/1TB - which will not disappoint - or, better still, splash some more to get better MBPro, and ignore that M3 MBA.

I bought the 16inch MBP as I do not use an external monitor.

If you’re budget-constrained the 24/1TB 13” Pro is a good deal. Personally I’m not a fan of 13” displays, I have a 16” MacBook Pro but you’re probably able to get TWO of those for a comparably- equipped 16”.
