If you're getting the new Mac mini, which one are you getting? Or are you going to take the opportunity to get a previous gen on clearance or refurbished? Or are you not going to get one at all?

I think I'm going to get the high end because I don't feel like upgrading the ram myself and I'm going to need a bigger hard drive if I plan to run OS X [Snow] Leopard and Windows 7
 
Hi, I'm getting the low end but buying it with a memory upgrade to 4GB.
 
Buying low end model 120GB HDD & 1GB RAM, but with 2.26GHz processor. Also ordered 4GB RAM & Hitachi 7K320GB HDD from OWC. There are great online resources to learn to upgrade the mini. Won't be "easy", but I look forward to the challenge... others have lived to tell about it, so I know I can do it too. :)
 
I just ordered the low end $599 model but I'll be pimping it with 4GB of ram and 320GB 7200rpm drive for about $125. I will require little bit of elbow grease on my part but I'll end up with a faster machine than the high end model for lower price.
 
I ordered the 2.26 Ghz base model and will update RAM afterwards to 4Gb and the HD to X25M 80Gb SSD.

Will dual boot OS X and XP, and connect the mini to dual monitors, 23 and 30 inch apple cinema displays.
 
I'm thinking low end so to speak but am holding on to see what happens with the video card tech specs confuzzlement.
 
How are you guys putting the 7200RPM hd in there? Is it by removing the optical drive?

The HD speed is my main issue with the mini.
 
I just bought the big one. Most of my other computers are towers and rack mounts that are more often than not open as I tend to fiddle with them and swap parts around. I made a conscious decision that my Mac is gonna be the exception. :)

There have been numerous reports saying that the VRAM automatically increases to 256 mb when more than 1 GB or Ram is put into it. So I think you should be fine there.

Some say yay some nay, do you have any links at all ? I've been searching and really it seems unclear to me
 
The old mini is just gross at this point made even uglier by its 9400m equipped brother. I would advise people to stay away from the old mini especially if it's going to be their primary machine.

Ya, I would almost never recommend the previous Mac mini unless it was going to be used for a home theater center.
 
marbles... there is plenty of confirmation from numerous reliable sources that upgrading the RAM on the new base-model Mini from 1GB to either 2GB or 4GB absolutely and positively increases the allocation of memory to video from 128MB to 256MB. Move forward confidently, my friend.
 
The combined effect of being lazy and getting a 10% discount on stock standard configurations has meant I ordered the up-spec model with 2GB RAM (which is enough for me for now) and 320GB HDD. For HTPC duties, this'll do nicely.

In a couple of years time, I'll go and get the innards upgraded to 4GB RAM and a 500GB(+) 7200RPM HDD or even, if the prices have dropped, SSD.
 
I'm getting the low-end but with 2.26 GHz proc and 4GB memory. I have enough external disks, so It is not yet a concern, and with edu discount. :apple:
