Hi, I’m trying to decide if I should get an M1 MacBook Air + a Monitor or an M1 iMac. I can’t decide on a monitor that’s decent that looks as nice as the iMac that doesn’t cost a ton (recommendations?) which is why I’m considering the iMac, I don’t necessarily need portability but on the rare occasions that I do I think the MacBook Air would be nice but at the same time, the larger iMac screen is very nice as well and it comes with the webcam and built in speakers too which is great. Which would you recommend?

Thanks

You can't really get both a MacBook Air and a display, where the display is of a similar quality to the iMac, without increasing the budget quite a bit beyond that. You can barely get any computer and a display in that quality without paying more than the iMac. In the end it comes down to that "rare occasion". How rare is it and what would you do on those occasions without a portable Mac? If it's quite rare indeed and you have other solutions I recommend the iMac above the Air since desk use seems to be your biggest priority

Thank you, yeah I mostly use my cell phone as the portable device when needed

Also the iMac is quite light at only 4.5 kgs, its pretty easy to move around the house.

My 24” M1 iMac is my favorite computer so far, its stylish, quiet, light, fast, and does everything well. And its a lovely shade of green.
