Which Macbook Is Made For BBoy

Hi , BBOY Merkuryy here, first thread since i was in the communty. Time to switch to the Mac Family!!!

I live in Shanghai, China, and practise Breakin Dance besides of study, mostly style from Lilou(Pokemon Crew) and Ryoma(Mortal Combat Crew).

But as Breakin is not in favor of the Chinese society (same situation with the Mac, but not with the iPod), I have to do all the things myself, especially making music remix and short movie for the crew.

I have chosen a Mac for different reasons, so the desicion is between a MacBook(White,2.16ghz,Core Duo 2) or the lowest MacBook Pro(2.2ghz,Santa Rosa).I used to have Nuendo(I also play guitars with my mum) and Mixman Studio pro for my music making.So for a mac, which one do you guys advise? MacBook or MacBook Pro?

With short movie making(I'm really newbie in this field),I'd like to do something like this----

I know there are hundreds of Djs and BBoy or Bgirl here, so it would be nice if you give me some "real" advice.
And for other uses, There is really nothing special:I play games ,but do not care for the graphic resolution(Believe it or not , I used a IBM T42 to play NFS9-Most Wanted, and fell great!!). I want to carry it with me "sometimes" in a day.

So the biggest part is short movie making and music remix(and photo edit, why not?).Come on!!!they must be a MacBook made for BBoying.

I think a highend Macbook will do you just fine. Assuming that you aren't doing any true 'professional' kind of work.

You will be able to run apps like Final Cut Express, and Logic Express on it easily, giving you the ability to do what you want with it.

Also, you'll find a Macbook is quite portable for its size.

I also think the MacBook (any of them) is good enough, but I think you should get the MacBook Pro if you can afford it. Get 3 GB of RAM as well.

Did you just want basic sound editing software? Amadeus Pro can do some things, and it only costs $40 US. However, if you buy THIS bundle, you can get it plus MANY other apps for only $49. This deal will only last for another 6 days.

Otherwise, try GarageBand first. GarageBand 3 is a free software that comes with every new Mac computer, including MacBooks.

If neither software is good enough, you're going to have to purchase Logic Pro.


Once you know what you want, I guess you can use iMovie to create movies using your music and videos.

Well, GarareBand is sure to be my first step towards Mac music software, very nice app.Then I will think about other apps,(Final Cut Express, and Logic Express or Amadeus Pro may be ).

But iMovie may be a little too simple to make a short film like the one I put the link above (The <Juju Trailer>).I should try sth else (Ps:I used to make family movie with a Digital Camera, I even made one about my big brother wedding ceremony)

So, I think now I should head to a Apple retail store and spend some hours to observe the MacBook and the MacBook Pro very very carefully to make a desicion for the size.BTW, I earned a lot from stocks in China, so buying a 2.2 ghz MacBook Pro isn't too difficult. But a 2.4ghz MacBook Pro is quite another story, "thanks" to the Vram

I said a MacBook is powerful enough for your needs, but I recommended that you buy a MacBook Pro anyway. The reason is because you may find that you need as much desktop space as possible, and if you get the MBP 2.2 GHz, you can probably use an external 23" monitor with 1920 x 12XY resolution, PLUS the MBP's 15" LCD at the same time. No problems.
I have a new MacBook 2 GHz with a 20" screen (1680 x 1050, I think). I can use my 20" LCD + my MacBook 13" screen at the same time, but it isn't a perfect experience. If you use a larger monitor, and you need to use software that requires a lot of RAM, maybe it's better to get a MBP because it has a dedicated graphics card (and dedicated vRAM), and allow your system to use as much RAM as possible.

Also, if you're not at home, the 15" MBP's screen is better because it has a higher resolution. It's very difficult to use high-end sound and movie applications on screens with low resolutions.

However, you can use a MacBook, and it will almost be as fast as the MBP. You would probably be better using only ONE monitor, like a 20" or 23" LCD when you're at home. Using two LCDs would make your screen "choppy" sometimes.

Make sure you get 3 GB of RAM for what you wish to do.
