Which Macbook?

I'm in a dilemma, which Macbook do I get?


Refurbished White MacBook 2.16GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
1GB memory
120GB hard drive
SuperDrive

For $1,099 and then the $250 Apple Care= $1349

--Or just wait until the end of the month and see what the new Macbooks offer?
 
1. If you already have the refurbished models lists, why are you listing the new one?

2. I'd wait for Leopard and a MacBook update.
 
If the budget is tight I would not buy the apple care...put the money towards a better machine.

Then there's the whole white vs. black debate. I usually tell people unless they REALLY don't like the white, not to get the black as it isn't worth it.

And at this point I'd wait for Leopard to buy...it's maximum a few weeks away.
 
I'd wait if I was in your position. It will definitely be worth it to see what the updates bring. Either way, once the macbooks are updated, the price on the current refurbed ones will drop slightly, so your wallet might not feel as much of a crunch.

However, this is all meaningless if you need the computer soon. Don't wait if something is being left undone because of it.

I need to sell my PlayStation 3 before I can buy the Macbook so I'll probably see what the new revision brings and then if it isn't substantial I'll get the suped up White one refurbished with Apple Care. My budget is at $1,300 and I plan on using the laptop for at least 2-3 years so yeah the Apple Care will be helpful.
 
you can also get applecare a lot cheaper by buying it on ebay. And you can buy it anytime during the first year, so you don't have to drop the money on it right away.
 
Now for some more questions...

1. How well will the Macbook work with the Mac port of Halo?

What I really want to do is buy a Wiimote(which is Bluetooth) and set it up to work with Halo. B to shoot, A for grenade, D-pad to move, swing to melee, etc.

2. To connect the Macbook to my 32" LCD HDTV can I use a...

Or is there a simpler way to get HDMI out from the Macbook?

3. How well will the Macbook work with HD content? Particularly 720p movies in the .mkv format. How well will these playback in the VLC player?

4. Any good, recommended laptop sleeves for the 13" Macbook?

5. Is the guy above me right? Can I buy the refurbished Macbook for $1,099 then the day before a year ends can I buy Apple Care so essentially I'll have 4 years of warranty?

No offense, but your budget is way too tight. You need to take more things into account (like TAXES;)) and you should be prepared to buy extras on an ad hoc basis (mouse, keyboard, etc) because you might find a need for those things once you settle into using your macbook. If your target machine costs $1300 (without Applecare, but with tax), then you need to have at least $1400 ready, just to be prepared.

I assume you have a job, so I suggest you find some way to work overtime or do something to shore up your assets, because you never want to buy something and have "just enough."

I think I could run Halo pretty good. 2.16 ghz Core 2 Duo, 1GB of RAM(I'll probably upgrade eventually to 2GB, and the onboard GMA950 has 64MB of vRAM.

You do realize that all of those graphics cards except the GMA 950 have hardware T&L and shaders, right?

All that will have to be handled via software emulation on the CPU.

Don't forget you wouldn't have to buy Leopard and the new lowend model might be a better value then the current midrange one.
 
Unless you are a severe masochist don't buy anything having a GMA950 if you want to play games.

Even the dedicated ATI chip the old iBooks had was better than this turd.

Just hope for an upgrade including the newer GMA x3100, that one appears to be half decent.

Otherwise buy a Macbook Pro or a Windows laptop.
 
Just for the hell of it I priced out a desktop PC at newegg.

I can get a DVD burner, nice case, 320GB Western Digital hard drive, EVGA 8800GTS gpu, OCZ 600w power supply, 4GB of Patriot Extreme RAM, P35 Gigabyte Mobo, and an Intel Core 2 Quad processor for $1,050.

Decisions, decisions.

I just was playing around with my cousin's white Macbook though yesterday and it is soo nice. Plus I already have the 360 for games.

I know. I'm just saying though. ;)

It's crazy the bang for your buck you can get out of a build it yourself desktop from newegg.com compared to not just Apple laptops but laptops in general. Recently there have been some pretty good sales on Windows based laptops with pretty good performance but Macbooks are so sexy and I'm not playing games on the laptop.
 
Some questions...

1. How long is the battery life if the backlight is all the way down and your just browsing on Firefox?

2. How long is the battery life if the backlight is up a bit and your watching a movie?

3. On the white Macbook does it fade into yellow after time?
