So I do tech support, and am starting to get into some coding (just HTML and CSS atm, but this is just my starting point, and I know I may very well get into Xcode and more languages). I work remotely most of the time by means of RDP. I have a M1 MacBook Air and a docking station at my home desk. I love this laptop, however, im starting to move around while working remotely, so im not sitting at my desk so much. Power wise, this laptop does everything I need, and theres no need for more. But damn do I wish I had more screen to work on when I dont have it docked. So I may purchase a new one. Which brings me to my dilemma:

With the new rumored 15" Air due to come out soon, I have been super excited. It's exactly what I want, a thin and light laptop, but with a larger screen. More power not needed.

But on Amazon, I can get an excellent condition 16" M1 Pro MBP for ~$1600, with more power (im thinking future proofing here) and more RAM and larger SSD than what im sure the 15" Air base model will ship with. But its much bulkier than I like my laptop (not that I think I would have an issue with the weight so much as just the bulkier size)

Also, im assuming the 15" air will be at least similarly priced, if not more.

Im curious what everyone else's thoughts are here. Anybody go from an Air to 16" Pro and regret it? Not regret it?

While the 15" Air might be arriving at Dub Dub this year, you might still wanna go with the M1 Pro MBP.

- Legacy ports
- Fans
- Better battery life
- Everything else you already mentioned
- If M1 is enough, then you can't go wrong with M1 Pro

While these things might not be too important to you, it is worth considering how these things might be better in the long run. Even if the 15" Air ends up being cheaper, you'll feel better knowing you paid more a machine with more advantages. However, you also might miss the portability and weight of your current M1 Air. Just thought I should mention

So go for it! Just make sure you're all backed up and prepared for when you make your decision: happy shopping! :)

I'd say the difference in weight and bulkiness is too small to "regret" moving from the Air to the Pro, so that shouldn't be a concern.

(the difference in price, however, might inspire a different kind of regret :p)
