Please bear with this 85 year old..........

Currently running a MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2018)
Processor 2.2 GHz 6-Core Intel Core i7
Memory 16 GB 2400 MHz DDR4
Graphics Intel UHD Graphics 630 1536 MB

Being a keen wildlife photographer I use this primarily for photo editing but finding it a bit restrictive now with bigger image files, bigger software packages needing more space and more processing power.

The 15" is a good size for me as I do most work with it on my lap.

Which way would you folks go? LOVE Mac so don't think I'll go elsewhere.

Sell the 2018 15" privately or trade in with Apple?

I'm afraid you're not going to get much for a 2018 MacBook Pro.
REASON WHY:
It has the awful "butterfly" keyboard, which is highly prone to failure and VERY expensive to fix when it does fail.

Just be aware of that...

You could consider switching to the 15-inch MacBook Air to preserve the screen size you’re used to while not blowing over the budget. The MacBook Pros have become very expensive, as you’ve probably noticed.

You would need to upgrade the memory to 16 GB and maybe the storage to 512 GB, which will drive up the price.

Worth considering: the current M2 model may be discounted around March when an M3 Air replacement may arrive.

Yes I found that out last year but Apple changed the keyboard out for free, so almost new keyboard!

Thinking along these lines! Like the 15" Air.
