It seems like the 8GB would have more resale/longevity value. The 4's won't be around for too long.

I will be getting the 8gig. 4 gigs just doesn't really seem like that much space to me. I will be using my iPhone as an iPod replacement. It will be great to not have to carry an ipod and a cell phone together.

i havent decided which one Im getting. I dont see any reason for the 8 gig so far, because I will never use this thing as a main ipod.

I don't listen to a very wide variety of songs anyways, and I've been surprised at how functional my 1 gig trans flash card has been in my VX8600 music-wise. Say I throw twice that for music (2 gigs) another gig for a movie or so, and the remainder for pictures and web usage / misc data.. I should be set!

Then I'll spend the $100 I saved on accessories and a case!

As for all the people that are worried about them selling out of the 8 gig, I'm sure Apple has spent a shocking amount of money researching a VERY accurate initial production run ratio between the two.

None at this time for teh following reasons:

1. Have a current contract on another carrier.
2. Need to find out AT&T/Cingular/... the fixed some of the coverage issues around me.
3. I probably want to see what the next generation looks like.
4. And for using the iPhone for music, I need more like 16 GB of flash memory for the iPhone to be useful to me.

• They tend to ebay their equipment when the next model comes out in 6-12 months and the larger capacity ipods have held their value better.
• $100 is fair for +4GB.
• 4GB is not enough to leave the ipod at home when traveling. After OS, browser cache, contacts, email cache, maps, etc. you'll have about 2GB for music and videos? Say 1GB of music and 1 GB of video. A 2h movie DVD ripped to ipod is about 500MB. I need more than 2-3 movies on the ipod when I travel.

Thanks for the breakdown. I didnt even think about the software taking up space. I was thinking that was the free space.

I am getting 8GB phone.

This is the whole reason to buy the iPhone. I have been waiting a long time for someone to create a gadget that can be used as a phone, internet, and music player. A 4GB phone is just not enough room to carry all my data.

I really wished they had come out with a 16GB phone, now that would have been great!

I have an 80GB ipod and I'm still getting the 8GB iPhone for reasons stated above....plus, what's another hundred to double the memory when you're already spending that much?

I'm leaning away from getting one, but if I do, it'll most likely be the 8 gig version. Twice as much memory for 100 bucks more?

I'm on again , off again for getting one. Right now, it's on. EDGE is still a worry for me. But definitely an 8GB.

Wish we knew what we might expect in software updates. I think software will be the only changes in the hardware for quite some time.
