Which Mouse?

Here's the deal, I bought a cheap MS optical scroll mouse for my mac as soon as I got it, and while it does what I need most of the time, but a little too frequently the pointer goes wild. Also, it is not especially accurate when I'm doing things like editing sound and film or designing webpages. So what I have been doing is swapping in my bog-standard apple optical mouse for work that requires more accuracy. And accurate it is! However, I am going crazy with control+click instead of a right click and no scroll wheel!

Sooo, I was thinking that perhaps since I'm keen on the apple mouse in every other way, I should get a mighty mouse. I've used MM before and thought it was great, but I have heard a lot of bad things about things like the scroll wheel jamming. So what have your experiences been with MM? Would you recommend another mouse (needs to be under $50)? How about BT dongle compatible mice... I am thinking of getting on to BT.. Too many wires!

Yeah, I had a Mighty Mouse, but it kept getting jammed, plus I didn't like how I couldn't hold down a button and click with the other at the same time. I got a Microsoft Laser Mouse 6000, as it was only $24.99, and I'm very happy with it. It won't jump around like an optical mouse, and I love the fact that the scroll wheel has those ridges (not a fan of the smooth scroll wheels). It's also got the side buttons which are good for back/forward in Safari. That's the mouse I would recommend, though there are many laser mice out there.

I used the Mightymouse that came with the INTEL Imac and loved every minute of it. (Father has computer now )
I have always been a Wacom tablet user and a Wireless bluetooth mouse user when not designing.
The mighty mouse seems like a great option but if it does get dirty and stuck then your SOL.

I hate when people think their Mighty Mouse is gone forever when the scroll ball gets stuck. All you have to do is turn it upside-down and quickly slide it across your pant leg a few times. Voila! Good as new.

I had a kensington mouse for a while and the pointer would go crazy also, until i got a new mouse-pad. I think the surface has a lot to do with the performance of a mouse.

I have the Logitech V270 in silver. It's a great mouse and the batteries last for a very long time, up to about a month for me.

I have a logitech v200. it has no tracking issues and is very nice to use. I've had it for 5 months and it is still going stong on the same batteries. Very happy with it.

Having used MM for some months, I had to deep-six them. Both failed to scroll down without constant cleaning. Now I use the Logitech Cordless Click! exclusively. Perfect for my hand, as I am left handed so that's important. The mechanism is sssmmmooottthhh, and has a great tactile feel to it. And it's not one of those .0008 ounce mice... it has some weight to it.
Mileage may vary of course! Might be BAD for you. Try one at Best buy or wherever.

Thanks! It's good to hear experiences using MM and other mice. I think iboookowner is right, it does have something to do with the surface. Problem is that the only surfact that the microsoft mouse worked well on was one of those really rough, cloth bound books! Regular track pad was just not good enough for it!

Although generally outside of my budget, what do you all think of the optical trackball mice? I had one for a short while at my last empoyer, but the damn ball kept falling out! This was 3 -4 years ago, perhaps they've gotten better?

I have the MX 518 by logitec, which is wired (I know the OP wanted a wireless, but this is my recomendation), but is still awesome. It is accurate, fits the hand wonderfully, and is light, but not cheaply-made light.

I bought it because I game, and it is great for that. One of the cool features is being able to change DPI (responsiveness) with two buttons on the mouse. the only problem is that the software that comes with it to program extra buttons is windows only, so they only work sometimes for sometimes, and I can't figure out how to set them in OS X.

Plus it looks awesome. The only problem is that it is spendy ($50), but for an accurate mouse, that is only to be expected.
