Hi all.
Very new here but lots of people with a lot more knowledge than me on macs and computers - so here I am with a question or two
I got a late 2008 Macbook Alu which I have used for gaming the last 2 years. I have never cared too much for graphics in games as I would rather - if there were any doubt - turn the graphic settings down to be sure I can play it smoothly. In my (mac)book its Gameplay > Graphic.
BUT, now I am looking to upgrade it since I got a few games I actually cant run on this 2,4Ghz Macbook with 4gb Ram and only the onboard graphic card which seems to be the bottleneck for gaming on this computer. And I would like to be able to put video settings on high instead of low for now
I will keep this 13,3 inch macbook and instead buy an IMac to use at home.
I am mainly buying it to play games on and I want an IMac - not a Windows based PC.
I am looking at the good 21,5 inch IMac since I have read that the upgraded Graphic card from the base model(Radeon 6750 -> 6770) actually performs up to 24% better in several scenarios and I like the upgraded Processor.
This is where my knowledge on this subject ends.
I'll probably buy an additional 4gb Ram to have 8gb total no matter what solution I take.
I'm playing things like StarCraft 2, The Witcher 2 and so. I never play any simulations or shooter games. So they are not too demanding but I still want a bit futureproofing.
Would it give me anything to upgrade it to the 2,8Ghz i7 processor - I read a lot about multithreading around the net and I can see only the i7 supports multithreading - maybe it comes out wrong but it makes 8 virtual cores from 4 phys cores
A few questions:
1. Would the small 2,5Ghz still be able to run most games or does the extra CPU power mean a lot?
2. Anyone have any experience with the 2 Graphic Cards mentioned other than benchmarks tests - which I dont understand very well(Radeon 6750 and 6770
3. How much in the gaming world does the i7 with multithreading capabilty help?
Uh that ended up being a long text - I hope someone gets through it and gives there 2 cents
Thanks
