I need some help deciding between these configs:

Base 27" 2017 with 512ssd

Or

3.8 27" as configured from factory which includes 2tb fusion and 8gb graphics card

One could be ordered with no tax so the real price difference is $130

Figure out how much you have to spend and buy the model that fits. Dont forget AppleCare. Buy the smallest memory config and upgrade yourself.

I plan to buy the top model with the I5. 1TB SSD. Add memory separately. I just need it for web browsing :)

I will do browsing, email, and will run some VM instances at times..... I don't do photo or video editing but I at times run some applications

the 3.8 with 2GB fusion drive and 8GB video would be $2279 (no tax)

the 3.4 base with 512 SSD would be $2,134 (tax)

Solid. I mean you're getting a lot more for very little and the 2tb vs 512GB is quite a bump. The marginal cost vs marginal benefit is definitely in your favor on the higher end model, and could translate later into resale value. I can't rule out going big in your situation.

I guess in the end is the 512SSD worth more than having the other specs upgraded
