I have been using an M1 Air 8 gig 512 gig and am very happy with it. I had a 4th gen 12.9 iPad Pro but decided I wanted to go to a smaller iPad and put it on Facebook. I ended up trading it for an M1 Pro 8 gig 256 gig, I am going to sell one of the these and I know they are very similar. I am a total casual user and don’t really even use a computer much, I can go a couple weeks between charges on the Air

If you don't need a Macbook, but only got it as the trade, then I would suggest an iPad. If the thing you enjoy about your MacBook is the screen size, I would say the 13" iPad Pro is for you despite your thinking you wanted smaller; otherwise 11" iPad Pro.

If you’re a casual user, I think you’d be better with M1 Air 512 Go than M1 Pro 256 Go, only because of the storage limitation and because you’ll probably never need the fan on the Pro. If they had the same storage I would have recommend you to keep the Pro to future-proof it, but with double storage in the Air and almost identical internals, you’d be better with more storage in my opinion

I am leaning towards the Air as well, the biggest reason is no touchbar

Which device do you enjoy using more as in, if both were side by side, which one would you be more inclined to pick up and use? Which would you be more likely to toss in a bag and bring with you? What did you like about the iPad Pro, and what do you like about the Air?

In your case, it makes sense to keep the Air. It has no touchbar. It has more storage. It seems well suited for your use case. IMHO
