I'm going to buy an iMac, my first mac, and I'm stuck on deciding which 20 inch model i want, the low end 2.4 ghz, 2400 XT model, 1GB Ram for $1599AU OR the high-end 2.66 ghz, 2600 pro model, 2GB Ram for $1999AU, the $400AU is a big jump, which I can barely afford.

I dont intend to play any games, except Spore (when it finally comes out.) I do very, very minor Photoshop work. Ripping and converting DVD's with Handbrake etc. I mostly will just use it for regular day to day things like surfing, checking email etc. RAM isnt a big issue as i can walk downtown and pick up a 1gb stick for $30.

Which model should I get?

get the one you can afford. and remember, macs cost more than the purchase price, things add up (external HD for time machine, more RAM, different mouse/kb etc)

and for the things you are going to do the base end 20" (2.4 GHz) should be good.

i away go for the best that wont brake the bank so I would go for the top of the 20" line u will be able to use it longer and wont be kicking your self when it takes 5 hours to rip a DVD
