It's time for me to replace my late 2012 Mac Mini. It doesn't seem up to the task of smoothly playing 4K videos from my drone and it works hard when it comes time to edit them. I'll be storing a lot of those videos along with 20MP pictures. Each of the pics is 7-8MB. I like things to happen instantly when I click on something and not have to wait while I watch the wheel spin. Computers are like cars, can never have to much power!

I'll definitely be going with the 27" iMac. I won't say money isn't an object when it comes to how much the machine costs. I want something powerful and fast but I don't want to spend cash on options that won't matter. I prefer the i7 processor so now I have to decide between the M390 and M395. Will either of these be good enough for what I want to do or is the M395X worth the additional $250.00? Where would I notice the difference?

I'm planning on buying this soon. Either an updated version if it's announced/released during the March event or I'll go with the 2015 model if an update isn't in the near future.

Thanks!

Editing 4K will use the dGPU if you are using something like FCPX and could be the limiting factor but the hyperthreading on the i7 is also a great boost for editing 4K, all the configurations will do the job though.

If gaming is part of your usage the dGPU is more important than the i7.

No gaming for me. Just photo/video editing, will be storing a lot on the machine, usually have a lot of applications open and like things to happen quick.
