Hi

Just wanted some feedback, because I don't know what to do.

I could buy a brand new 14" Base for CHF 1887.- or a 5 Week old 16" Base with a Cycle Count of 4 for CHF 2000.-. I'm a big fan of both sizes as well so that makes it even more difficult:(.

Sorry for my English.

Greetings from Zürich, Switzerland.

Sure you like them both!
The question is - how do you intend to use them?
If you ever plan on laying in bed with your laptop on your stomach watching content then you must get 14, because 16 will be way too heavy and uncomfortable for the most folks.
So, let us hear your intended usage scenarios!

I'm going to replace my M1 Pro 13".

My use case is primarily programming (web/mobile app) and sometimes watching movies and other content. But it almost never leaves my home and my desk, I use it with my Ultrawide Monitor.

I guess I know the answer now😅

Right, that specifies it well. With a 14" you're marginally increasing screen real estate from the 13" but it's a moot point using an external monitor. Also, you remain more portable where ever you happen to be.

Edit: Had you not had the ext Monitor, mainly home use with occasional travel outside, my answer would have been the 16"

Just saw a Marketplace posting for 14-MBP that’s $1300 off Apple’s current price (512GB 16G Ram, 14-core with AppleCare until 2023)

Looks to be in immaculate shape and has just 10 battery cycles.

Was debating getting a M2 MBA - now I’m torn. Do I jump on it?

Too good to be true... be very wary.
Let me guess: the seller has some excuse why they don't have a receipt?

OP, if it is mostly on your desk, then I suggest screen size (16"). I use a 17" laptop with external monitor alongside my desktop with a widescreen, a 27" and a 24" and for my work screen real estate is king. I never regret the larger screen.

Do you need a 16" screen? If you are unsure on the answer, then pick the 14".

I say get the BRAND NEW 14"

You never know what you're getting with a used one.
I've seen numerous postings over the years from people who bought used MacBooks and had a lot of "unpleasant surprises" afterwards.

I'd say the used 16" - you can throw AppleCare on it as well, with the money you save on it, as it's only 5 weeks old. Given it's so new, it looks like it was too big for somebody

I understood your English perfectly well!

I actually have each size--one from work (16) and one that I personally own (14). I have to say I tend to gravitate more toward the 14 just due to the extra portability. I work more or less the same no matter the screen size, so the difference there doesn't bother me much. I just feel like the 14" is way more pleasant to carry around and use away from my desk.

Looks like you're basically picking between two brand new ones though. I'd say if you're doing things that require as much screen as possible, definitely go 16. If screen size isn't important to you, go 14.

With the external monitor, it almost seems like the 14” is the better buy. That said the 16” does have better thermals and the base 16” actually has more CPU and GPU cores than the base 14”. Add to that the thing never leaves your house and the 16” starts seeming like the better option….

I might go with the 16” myself.

Certainly if you expect it to be at home most of the time, as I’ve found my 16” is since the pandemic began, I think you’ll be more please with that size screen. I don’t see myself going back to smaller again, personally, especially given the global and even local travel situation for the foreseeable future.
