Which one would you pick?

I found 2 good offers in the local paper.

1.eMac @1.42
640 MB RAM
80GB
Ati Radeon 9600 64

500 euros

2.Powermac G4 QS@800 SP
768MB
60GB
Ati RV200 32(no idea what it is he said thats what it said in the system profiler)
Combo
480 euros

I already have a screen. I mostly want to use these computers for a bit of gaming, garageband, web design, some bryce 3D WORK and light photoshop.
I will have to keep one of these computers for a while atleast 3 years. Which would you pick?

Although the Quicksilver is upgradable, the eMac has a faster system bus, faster processor, better graphics chip, and faster memory. In the long run, that'll probably make it useful for longer. The hard drive in the eMac is a bit slower, but you can always replace that later (or plug in an external).

I generally reccomend newer machines if given the choice.

Ati rv200 is a Ati Radeon 7500 Video card according to Mac Tracker ..

The PM has alot upgrade possibilities but its running slower out of the box..

yeah, another vote for the eMac, and if its in the paper, you can always barter them down a bit...

I'd go for the eMac. The Power Mac G4 can only be upgraded up to the Radeon 9600 anyways. You get a faster bus speed and RAM in the eMac. You can also try your hand at upgrading the optical or hard drive in the eMac.

I'd go for the emac also. Best bang for the buck without doing any upgrades.

They are still making them. You can only buy it in the Educational Institution Store. They occasionally show up from time to time in the refurb section. Apple wants you to buy the iMac G5. At the price they're coming down to in the refurb store (US$849-US$1199) it's worth just buying a full blown G5.

Well they still make them. It's just hard for us to get 'em.

Quicksilver all the way
i used to own an emac 1.25ghz and the graphics sucked (the 1.42 is a little better)
but the quicksilve holds it value better and is way more upgradable

hands down go with the quicksilver, no question in my mind

Ok well I decided to get the emac, I will recieve it this thursday. The seller forgot to mention that the keyboard and mouse arent included but oh well. The thing that made me decide on the emac was I really want to get rid of my ugly CRT!

The eMac is going to be faster. You have a 7200 RPM hard drive, faster video card, and faster CPU. More RAM might help though.
