Which PPC Mac to sell to make room for Intel Mac?

I am thinking about replacing my 12" PB (1.50 Ghz/80GB/1.25 GB ram/2 more years of Apple care), 12" iBook (1.33 Ghz/40GB/1.5 GB ram/2 more years of Applecare), or 15" PB (1.25 Ghz/80GB/1.5 GB ram/one more month of Applecare) to an Intel Mac. I have already sold my Ti PB to make room for newer machines. And, I have purchased a new C2D 15" MBP already.

I would like to ask your opinion which PPC Macs I should get rid of. I am thinking about keeping 12" PB (because it is still relatively new and is very portable) and selling off 15" PB and 12" iBook. I would like to keep one PPC Mac with me for the time being due to non UB applications.

I take my iBook out on the road with me almost every day because of its portability and low price (compared to PB). But, iBook's GPU and 40GB HD are not good, compared to specs of my PBs.

If you were in my shoes, would you think selling 12" iBook and 15" PB (and keep 12" PB) is a good way to go about this? I am re-organizing my computer set up to reduce the duplication (while keeping one back up portable unit in addition to main portable unit and main desk top unit).

I'd say that's a plan as long as you think you'll be happy with it down the road. Ask yourself if you'll be happy having only the 12" PB and the Intel desktop say, 3 years down the road.

Sounds like a good idea to me, the 12" PB would be my pick of the three listed. It's small, light, portable, powerful and has ages left on the AppleCare. The other two are hampered in some way, the iBook is tough but the PB's got the jump on it in terms of raw ability and the 15" PB is old and coming to the end of its warranted life.

I think you're making a wise choice.

Thanks for posting constructive feedback on this. I have some attachment to my current Macs; but, technology moves ahead and newer machine will help me with better computing capabilities.
I think iBook is still a popular budget notebook and I would sell this off before it gets older and will keep my 12" PB which I will make it the daily tote-along notebook replacing my iBook's current duties. Also, 12" PB's ability to drive up to 23" ACD is a plus (iBook needs a hack to force this feature on it), along with the larger 80GB hard drive. I prefer not to go through upgrading the HD for my iBook because of its complicated disassembly process.
My 15" PB will be a goner soon.
After the dusts are settled, I think I will go ahead with MacPro and 30" ACD while keeping my 12" PB and 15" C2D MBP.

I would definitely just keep the 12in pb the rest aren't road warriors. Thats if you even need to keep a ppc mac, does the extra 5seconds of load time for word really matter in the end?

I upgraded from the 12in pb to the 15in core duo mbp and haven't looked back. The pb is now my parents where it does the job well for their needs

That is what I have started thinking as well. Someone offered me $650 for iBook (which still has 2 more years of Applecare, extra battery, Radtech sleeve & screensaverz). For my 15" PB, I have a potential buyer who is willing to pay around $850. Bascially all of my Macs are in top shape conditition I am careful with my computer equipment. It's difficult to part with the trusty PPC Macs.

After a few weeks, I still have not reached a decision on this. So far, I sold my prestine 15" Ti/550 Mhz. So, I was able to bring my computer set up down to 4 units (as far as Macs are concerned).

Are other people having the same attachment issue with their PPC Macs?

My iBook is so far very reliable and solid/sturdy to take the daily out-of-home use without issues, while it is still being covered by Applecare for the next 2 years. My 15" PB is still usable for non UB apps. But, I know I have to get rid of either one of them or both as I go through more upgrade next year and make the computer set up more easily manageable.

The 15" is still a good machine with better video than the 12" and has pcmcia but is quite a bit bigger and heavier. Stick with the 12" PB and off the other 2. a 12" for daily toting (small size/weight - okay performance) then you'll have the MBP for when you need power on the move and the MP for when you need all the grunt you can get.

For me that would be the ultimate set of machines. Plus maybe an iMac, but I don't really know why.

Thanks for the constructive comment. I think I would sell my iBook and start using 12" PB as my daily computer. It has been perched on the iCurve connected to 20" ACD. It has a 80 GB HD compared to iBook's 40 GB. So, I think I have more room to store data (with my iBook, I also carry Lacie's rugged mobile 120GB HD as I don't want to use up the internal HD space too much so that it has decent space for scratch disk function and overall optimal OS performance). I know I carry a lot every day.
Maybe, later on, I would need to decide if I would keep my 15" PB. This is still a good Mac for photo editing and CS2 works. It has both FW 400 and FW800 which give me very flexible expandability for storage space with the external hard drive.

I finally made a decision and my iBook got an ax. So, I was able to trim down my Mac units to 3 from 5. I just noticed 12" PB runs much quieter than 12" iBook now that I started using PB as a daily machine. Now I have freed up a few extra mice, keyboards, USB 2 hubs, and Firewire hub along with one extra iCurve, which I can take to to my 2nd office to duplicate my set up I have at my 1st office. Now I have more desk space available.
