I'm going to be in the US for about three weeks, so i'm looking for a prepaid sim card for my unlocked German iPhone 2G, mainly for data usage like maps, Yelp etc., while i'm not around any wireless networks. Any recommendations would be appreciated.

It will be very expensive. I know AT&T sells only two prepaid data plans, 1MB for $4.99 and 100MB for $19.99.

I'm not sure what T-Mobile offers. You would also need to add a hacked carrier file to your iPhone to allow data to work on 3.0 and above. The only way to get this work is to buy a GoPhone, activate it, take the sim out and place it in the iPhone. They don't sell only activated sim cards, you need to buy a GoPhone to activate.

So, buying a GoPhone, resetting network settings in the jailbroken, unlocked iPhone and activating the sim card in the iPhone doesn't work?

It will work after you upload a carrier file that has the APN settings for AT&T. Firmware 3.0 and above blocks all non official iPhone sims from accessing data. This is why you need a modified carrier file.

Thanks for the info.
