quick question for those able/willing to answer. i just purchased a macbook (black), and want to upgrade the RAM. I had to have the macbook for next monday, so i didn't order through the apple store (where RAM would have only been $157) and only have 1 gig on 2 dimms (the original setup). my question, which company do the majority of you trust the most (crucial, kingston, etc...)? anyone know of any good deals for buying two 1 gig sticks? Thanks alot. you've all been of great help.

You should have gotten it from Apple.

You can pick up G.Skill from newgg, comes out to about $160. Then you could sell off the old RAM or keep it. If you sold it, you put yourself at risk for support from apple. If you keep it, now you have RAM sitting around when you could have had 2GB stock from Apple for the same price with no warranty issues.

Unfortunetly you didnt. So I would recommend the G.Skill on newegg.com:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231066

You could even spend a bit less and get the Apple compliant:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16820231091

The G.Skill was down to like $72 a week or so ago. Go with the Apple compliant since it is cheaper.

using non-apple ram in your machine causes warranty issues? to buy 2 gigs of ram from apple is $300. (i had to have the MB by next monday, and delivery wasn't possible by then). i could still get the apple RAM if everyone thinks that is the best way to go. i was under the impression that there was some decent non-apple ram out there though...

There is decent non Apple. You will just have to keep your original RAM in the event something happens, Apple could blame it on your 3rd party memory.

I wouldn't buy the 2GB from Apple now, unless you could get them to do the EDU upgrade pricing of $157.

I would go with the G.Skill, it is a good price and Mac compatible.

As an add, it does have a lifetime warranty. Other recommendations around here are OWC/Mac Sales and there is another I can't remember.

I'd recommend the G.Skill. It is currently $75 shipped per 1GB stick on Newegg which is a killer deal since I purchased mine for about $86 per stick.

this is what i purchased. should ship in the next day or two and be here by the end of the week. i'm giddy as a schoolgirl. 1 gig is decent, but i am assuming 2 will help it fly.

Definitely, I had to deal with 1GB for about 3 days until my G.Skill came. Made a huge difference. Enjoy!

I did a search, but couldn't find anything definitive.

Would anyone know if this Mushkin RAM works with the Core2Duo 2GHz Macbook (MA701LL/A)? Mushkin 971504A

The Core2Duo Macbook isn't listed under the compatibility list, but the CoreDuo Macbook is.

Thanks for any insight.

If it works with the Core Duo, it'll work in the Core Duo.

BTW, your RAM will not ever be an issue with warranty repairs. If they suspect it's causing trouble, they can just stick their RAM into the machine to test it, but it's a user-replaceable part for a reason. It's time for people to stop spreading that particular FUD.
