256 12.9. Same capacity as my iPad Pro 10.5. I decided I will only edit on my iPad 1) if FCPX comes to the iPad and 2) I can edit off external media. I don’t want to be copying the library from my Mac mini, to an external SSD, to the iPad’s internal SSD.

Didn't you order two models of iPad Pros?

I went with 512GB. I have a 256GB now and still have more than half the space free, However I don't upgrade my iPads often and I wanted to be somewhat future proof if Apple decides to do some creative things with iOS 15.

No I ordered two identical iPads but canceled the first one after the Education store came online and allowed me to order it with the discount.
Understandable. But regarding FCPX... not too confident that macOS version would be similar to iPadOS if it does come. I think they will add more features over time, gotta allow developers/designers to add plugins and stuff like that. Have you tried LumaFusion?

I have not. Personally I don’t use a lot of plugins so that’s not a big deal. I see the libraries being portable between platforms, it’s just a question of being able to edit from external media.

Went with 256GB as my 64GB mode is too small, and I want to keep this new one for longer. I’m also stoked for the mini-LED screen.

I suggest you give LumaFusion a try... it's really good. And I believe it's something you can have in the meantime until iPadOS 15 come out. I gotta feeling LumaFusion will give new iPad Pro users a quick update to take advantage of the hardware.

I had a 128gb iPad 5 and used only about a quarter of it. I got 256gb this time just in case Logic gets ported to the iPad. A full install is about 70gb, so I need that extra headroom. My 2011 MBP is extremely sluggish at this point (it’s basically just a store of hundreds of gigs of Logic files). So, the IPP will also be a laptop replacement of sorts.

I opted for the 12.9/256. The 128 size was my instinct, but thought the additional head room would be appreciated.

I was thinking about making archival video interviews with it (family members, etc.) and thought I would need the extra storage for that. How would you compare iMovie to LumaFusion for this type of application? Do you find video editing more enjoyable with one over the other?

Me too — the screen should make for a more enjoyable working and reading experience. I read many books and docs in PDF Expert, so that should be a +.

Here
I ordered the 512 GB. The jump from my 256 GB current device was already my bonus as I can get by on 256. I nearly forked over the $400 for the 1TB solely for the RAM until I realized that (1) I personally just don't need 1TB, (2) 8GB of RAM is already double my current device, which performs well, and (3) the vast majority of iPads have 2GB - 4GB of RAM and Macs have shipped with 8GB standard for years now, I don't think 8GB will be any kind of bottleneck.

For those with the the 1TB + though, you all have one heck of a tablet computer.

If you just starting out... can't go wrong with iMovie, it's straightforward. LumaFusion has a learning curve, but once you get the hang of it... its fun and you get more out of it. I've used FCPX and using LumaFusion is a breeze... wish there were more to it, like plugins and more features. But it does the job.

Same here. Going from 256gb 10.5” to 512 12.9”. Hoping to keep it numerous years.

Ah yes, the old “hey random people, reply to this with one of the available sizes/colors of <new Apple product>“.
