I have a mid 2015 MacBook pro with i7 processor and 16 GB memory. I am still running Mojave in order to keep my 32 bit Adobe pro working, but at this point I’m losing functionality on other apps and the computer needs to be updated.

I wasn’t sure if I should jump up to Monterey since it is the latest compatible software for my model, I was worried going for the latest version might slow it down.

Would it be better to upgrade to Monterey, or would Big Sur or Catalina be a better option?

Are there any beneficial features in the upgrades that would make one stand or more than the others?

Thanks for any information.

As another owner of MacBook Pro 2015, if you need to keep using 32bit apps, stick with Mojave...

Big Sur has received its last update and it can use Safari 16.6.1

Monterey will still be updated until 2024 and is currently able to run Safari 17.0

Of the three available updates from Mojave that can be officially installed on MacBook Pro 2015, for me, Catalina is the perfect balance of performance and features... It does not support the latest version of apps and drops 32bit app compatibility... It is also the last intel only macOS release since Big Sur and newer are more focused towards Apple Silicon although Big Sur and newer can still be installed officially on some intel macs...

If you are a bit adventurous, you can install Ventura using OCLP... I'm thinking of doing that since Final Cut Pro requires Ventura and newer and I have never purchased Final Cut Pro...

I also own a mid 2015 MacBook pro 15 in with i7 processor and 16 GB memory. I am running Creative Suite 6 under Mojave. I use my Mac mostly for Desktop publishing. I also use AutoCAD which M1 and M2 chip will not run. If you are into video editing the M1 or M2 chip is great, otherwise I staying with Intel chip for now.
