I had a similar decision and went with a 128gb intel520 5 yr warranty plus apricorn velo x2 for the sata 3 speeds. 128gb is sufficient as my boot/app drive.
 
If you want you could save by going with one with a SATA 3Gbps.

Otherwise the Samsung 840 is a great choice.
 
get a 128gb drive, put all your apps on it, use a internal 1tb spinning disc for your home directory. - cost around £100
 
a good point on the 128gb, it would only be for the OS and a few apps

I got 128 ... just for boot and apps, with my user on another disc. Just going to a 2010 mp from 2008, and on that I only had something like a 60 gb ssd (intel) and it was never a problem.

You should be fine.
