I'm looking to buy an SSH client app for my iPhone. 95% of its use will be for a screen/irssi session, so if anyone has any experience with those, I'd appreciate it.

Any suggestions? iSSH, TouchTerm SSH, and pTerm all seem decent, but I'm not sure which....

Don't.

I just jailbroke my phone and installed MobileTerminal and OpenSSH. I ssh just fine from there and it's even better. I can SFTP, save files to my phone, create .sh files locally and upload them via SFTP to save time, you can have multiple terminals running and do multiple sessions at once... Basically everything you can do from a computers terminal.

If you really don't want to jailbreak, then I can't help as I've been using MobileTerminal since I got my phone.

I should clarify that I'm on a 3GS that came with 3.1, so I can't JB until the dev team releases it. But, if there's a non-free client that beats out the JB ones, I'm willing to pay for it.

I doubt something can beat a full fledged terminal, but I suppose jailbreaking isn't an option for you at the moment. :) Sorry!

Well, the vast majority of people don't want to jailbreak their phones. Even those with the technical ability to do so. So, unless jailbreaking is specifically mentioned, a solution requiring a jailbreaking should not be the only solution presented.

... Ummm... Who ever presented it as the "only" solution? I just said that it's free and a superior solution, which it is. I even mentioned that I just didn't have any information on the other options because I haven't bought one because I'm using MobileTerminal.

I never made reference to ones ability to be technically savvy enough to jailbreak either.

Thanks for the Flamebait!!

Wrecking your phones security to use a secure communication protocol is hardly a completely superior solution.

Wrecking your phones security? How so? I've never had any security problems and I, in fact, have greater security. My GPS data doesn't get sent to all those ad companies. Thanks PrivaCy!

A response like yours shows your lack of adequate knowledge on the subject.

You might want to learn to read English a little bit better. I did not say you said it was the "only" solution. I said it was the "only" solution you presented. Nowhere did I suggest you made any judgments on anyone's technical ability. Nor was there any "flamebait".

You should assume a request for an app recommendation is for a iPhone that is not jailbroken unless specifically indicated otherwise. Again, the vast majority of users here do not jailbreak their iPhones.

Just FYI.

Also, I assumed they wanted a SSH client. I only offered a solution. Why should I assume that they don't want to know every possible option?

I have an idea... You should assume a request for an app recommendation is someone looking for an app recommendation. Not looking for someone to argue about who does and doesn't jailbreak their phones. K? I recommended something and you still have not. This is getting way off topic.

ViViDboarder,

I am not sure what you are trying to say with the quotes that you bolded in your last response.

When I wrote "Even those with the technical ability to do so.", it was in reference to my text that said "the vast majority of people don't want to jailbreak their phones". How you manage to think there is something in that text that suggests you "made reference to ones ability to be technically savvy enough to jailbreak" an iPhone boggles the mind. It's not there....

My point is that if people ask for app recommendations in iPhone forums other than "iPhone Hacks", the recommended app should not be a jailbreak app. Do you understand that?

Well then, I don't see the need to bring in techincal ability at all, but that aside. I understand the majority of people DON'T want to jailbreak even though they can.

I understand that, but I think it's a poor concept. Why should someone not be referred every solution to any problem? How about when someone asks for a recommendation, you actually recommend something? I've done more to help the OP find a solution than you have. From time to time you will see people post questions about apps that nobody can find in the app store so people recommend they jailbreak and get a Cydia app. Should they just never find the answer they are looking for because you don't think someone should suggest jailbreaking?

How about you leave someone who recommends a Cydia app alone and worry about yourself and suggesting apps of your own?

Why? Because recommending a jailbreak app or solution to an iPhone user with a non-jailbreak iPhone is like recommending a Mac app to a Windows user. They might as well be entirely different products.

Also, I would suggest iSSH to the OP as well.

I did not post this is the hacks section. I posted it in the general iPhone section and for some reason it was moved here... :/
