Which tablet should I buy for my gf?

Last year, i bought an used wacom tablet intuos 2 for my girlfriend's birthday. Unfortunately her house was robbed 5 months later and they took the tablet along with them. They left the mouse, as well as the pen. Her birthday is coming up again and I am thinking about buying it again. However, i am researching the bamboo fun, and it seems like a good idea to buy that. She is a hobby drawer, and isn't really too advanced, other than her unique style.

Looking at the way she draws, can one discern what type of tablet is better for her? Money is not a big factor here, but if a bit of money can be saved, i would rather go with that option.

How long is she intending to use it for, is it for school/work etc they all have a huge bearing on which I would choose.

If its for a more consistant use (ie work, design/art course etc) then I would say look at the intuos. Different bigger sizes (better upto a point), alternative pens and also extra sensitivity and angles/rotation etc with the pens.

If its just for fun/hobby then the bamboo range should be fine.

i would say go for an intuous
if thats what shes used to then the bamboo might not feel as nice/responsive
it is a lower spec model after all

Or don't. A cintiq would be better suited for it, if you're going to spend that ridiculous amount of cash. The long-delayed modbook isn't really turning out to be all that practical. But since the OP is trying to decide between a cheep bamboo and a more expensive intuos, I don't think suggesting a $2k+ machine is being very helpful.

Normally, based on reading your description of its use, I would have said get a intuos, even if you have to get some family or friends to go in on it. Those who draw regularly will get frustrated with the limits of the bamboo, as far as pressure sensitivity go.

However, I saw her link, and it seems like she might be less serious about it (not trying to be mean) and that a bamboo would allow her to achieve the same level of detail and skill-level. If she becomes more dedicated to drawing, the bamboo will stifle her.

After much consideration and help from you guys, i got the intuos 3 used from ebay. I paid a little more than the bamboo would have been, but i figured it's better in the long run if she ever decides to pursue something.

lost tablet

After installing the latest OSX I find or rather can't find my tablet . I had a small 4x5 /ET- 0405U . It did what I needed . I have read that there is a fix coming . Is this true ? should I wait or get a new tablet . I lost my start up disc also , if I find it doe's osx 10.5.4 support the ET ? Any thoughts ?
