I want to toy around with the new M1 chip, I currently use an 2019 iMac which I will keep until the M* iMacs debut, so in the meantime I am looking to buy one of the current offerings with the knowledge I will likely sell it when the machine I want as my iMac replacement arrives

So, mini, mba, or mpb? Which do you see has the most potential for resale with less than a years time on it? Do you think more than a base model is needed?

Definitely the base MBA. The latest Intel appears to be an exception in the used market. Probably because it's flooded with sellers wanting the M1. Usually the one gen old MBA barely budges in the used market.

If you are used to the iMac screen, you should opt for the Mini.

I can't stand using my laptops because of the small screens - 15" and 16" are even too small for me on a daily use.

I use iMacs and Minis w/ 27" displays and they are the best.

Plus my M1 Mini can handle 2 external displays (HDMI + TB3) whereas the Air and Pro can't.
