my old macbook is playing up so need an upgrade, all im looking to do is run logic 9 was thinking my best bet might be to get an older macpro 2008/2010? or do i go for a newer macbook pro?

Get a Mac Pro, but 2009 at least.
 
I would say.....

if you need portability, go for the Mac Book Pro (no retina need, I suppose). Maybe a RAM upgrade after market can be helpful. If no portable needed, go for a Mac Pro 2010 ( no newer is available still). But I am not too sure about how well Logic is optimized for multiple cores. You can choose between quad, six, eight and 12 core versions, beginning with the Nehalem quad core 2.8 from 2010

on second look it was a 2008 mac pro i had seen for sale. from reading some threads on here the mac mini seems to get a good shout, not worried about it being portable my old macbook is so noisey it put me off laptops for recording.
