mac has been behaving pretty weird lately. i'm wondering what everyone uses and does to keep the hard drive/system in good health?

i use mac janitor, but been told it's kinda useless.
what about diagnostic stuff like disk warrior and tech tools?

Ive been using MacJanitor. I downloaded Onyx the other day - it has a few other neat extras. For example Tiger f***ed up my help but Onyx fixed it. Yah! Thanks Onyx.

I don't if one is better than the other?

I use Anacron and run Disk Utility to repair permissions before and after upgrades, I haven't really needed anything else.

Edit: I'd never heard of MacJanitor before I just went to the website it is a pointless application just install Anacron and forget about it. They do the exact same thing, 1 just does it the proper way the other is MacJanitor.

Onyx looks like it does some extra stuff so it could be worth installing.

Anacron does not work with Panther though.

I've posted links to the Panther version of Anacron heaps of times, I really wasn't going to do it again. Especially when the Tiger version has a link to the Panther / Jaguar version on the homepage, and this forum has a great search feature.

Gosh! I must have downloaded the Tiger-version then. Nevermind, I'll think I'm still fine with MacJanitor.

Why? MacJanitor is a waste of your time. Welcome to UNIX we use anacron....

Anacron is handy.

For most things I use MainMenu, instead of OnyX. They do more or less the same, but I like having all the maintenance options available in my menu. :)

Very cool program and just what I was looking for.
Thanks for the link.

Just to be redundant and irritating...

I'll put in my vote for Anacron as well... I used MacJanitor for awhile, but I wouldn't always remember to use it so I jumped on Anacron when I read it about it here on MR.

A thread about it here.

I second Mainmenu. Great little utility. Is it still being updated? The batch tasks have been "in development" for a long time.

Why? Anacron for Tiger works on Tiger, and the other version works perfectly on the older versions of OS X.
