I use my MBP 13" 2015 (OS X 10.11.4) alternately mobile and as a desktop computer with an external display.

There are several reports about problems with USB-3-Hubs and Macs.

It would be great to avoid such problems and to know which specific USB-3-Hub works fine.

Can you recommend a Hub with 4 Ports to me?

The power supply should have enough power: 4 * 900mA = 3,8 A
It would be nice, if each port has an own switch - but it's not a must.

No, I don't want to buy a thunderbolt dock. They are to expensive.

Thanks for your help :)

Doesn't matter, just make sure the hub has an external power brick.
You really think that not any hub with an external power brick will cause problems?
But there are several reports about problems with hubs.

What do you think is an appropriate output current for a 4 port hub?

I saw many with 1A.

The Ankers get good reviews but even they say that "2.4GHz wireless devices, MIDI devices and some USB 3.0 devices may not be supported. Try using the host port or a USB 2.0 connection."

Your results will depend on what Mac it's on, what devices are plugged into it, and the reliability of the individual components that are in the particular hub you are using.

Brian, thanks for your hints.

Is there any other hub from another producer, which offers a better support.

The dependencies you mentioned (Mac model, devices which are plugged): is that a bug of OS X, or are the problems - with the same devices but other OS more stable?

Is there any systematic test available which mentions specific hub chips etc.?

One wireless device I like to use is a wacom wireless kit.

Is there any hub which uses just the same hub chip as the MBP itself.
So you can be sure, that every device which works on the MBP directly will work with hub too.

It happened exactly, what you quoted in #6, Brian:

Yesterday my Anker hub arrived: https://www.anker.com/products/A7517011

The wireless sender for the pen tablet wacom intuous 5 works at the "host port" of the Macbook, but it does not with the hub.

With windows 10: no problem with the anker hub at the usb-3 port of the PC.

It really seems, that OX X has a bad implementation for USB-3.
Annoying.

When I understand you correctly, it makes no sense to buy other hubs to try, if they work, right?

The problem is solved :)

The trick which is needed:
You have to connect the wireless sender with an usb-2-cable to the hub.
Than it works.

The distance of the sender to the hub is not important. Even if you place it directly on top of the hub, as near as it would be, when you stick it into it directly: it works.

I'm happy :)
