Just upgraded to a 14" Macbook Pro and need a few adapter to take on the road. I'm not looking for a whole hub, I just need a simple usb-c to ethernet cable. Their are a lot of amazon reviews that mention drivers and network issues with OSX.

Im not into really using a usb-c -> TB2 adapter if I can help it. I'd rather save that adapter for other things.

Can anyone recommend a simple usb-c to ethernet that works well?

I have no issues with both my Belkin USB-C to Gigabit Ethernet Adapter and my Trendnet TUC-ET2G.

Both are plug and play and don't use a lot of cpu resources when fully used.

Any 2.5 gigabit ethernet USB A or USB C adaptor that uses the Realtek RTL8156B chipset will work fine and Monterey should have built in driver support for it.

Recommend you find one that has a aluminum enclosure vs a plastic one (better heat dissipation) -- they'll all run warm / hot as they are all uses the same chipset (Realtek RTL8156B)

Has anyone tried the TrendNet TUC-ET5G? It’s technically a 5Gb adapter but it supposedly uses the Aquatia chipset. IIRC Mac OS X has built in support for this chipset for 10Gb networking, but idk if the drive will work for the 5Gb USB interface or if it will default to generic USB drivers like the Realtek chips…

I've owned both the plastic Belkin USB-C ethernet adapter that was sold at the Apple Store as well as the Aluminum Anker USB-C ethernet adapter from Amazon. The Belkin adapter would overheat and stop functioning often. The Anker one has been solid over long periods including long transfers NAS devices etc.

I've been using this one from Anker with zero problems.

Why nobody recommends the one from Apple. Is there anything wrong? How is it compared with the ones mentioned in this thread? I want to connect a MacBook Pro 16" M1 to a PC at the highest speed. Any good recommendation?

Apple sells two USB ethernet adapters. One with USB-A connection made by Apple and one with USB-C made by Belkin. Both are plastic. The OP is talking specifically about USB-C ethernet adapters. Better to go with Anker or another brand whose adapters have metal enclosures that are better at dissipating heat. The plastic adapters tend to overheat.

Ive tried several including the Belkin and anker and non of them give me full 1GB speeds. I finally found this one from D link and it works perfectly.

I also had this problem on a 2021 IPad Pro using the ethernet adapter from Belkin and Anker. The DLink DUB e250 works great for full 1GB speeds. One thing that I noticed is the Wi-Fi icon at the top right disappears when the Ethernet adapter is plugged in. The Belkin and Anker does not do this.
