Doesn't have to be VNC, could be RDP or whatever.

Just want to know which one is the best that will support video/audio fairly well and is easy to configure so I can use it away from home.

Don't want to spend up to $30 before hearing some opinions.

Thanks.

I'm using Desktop Connect which does both VNC and RDP, it was $12 a couple days ago, not sure if that was a sale or not. I have it setup to interact w/both my home OS X machines and with RDP at work.

When this app is approved in the App Store, it will be THE ONE to get for running your desktop apps on your iPad.

It could easily replace the VNC clients for most use, double up and feature similar 'extra desktop display' as iDisplay currently does. I bought iDisplay to 'extend my desktop display' onto the iPad. Its performance in the initial release is abysmal... completely unusable for anything than showing a photo.

The video demo of Wormhole Remote shows pretty clearly how useful this app/service will be.

The viable iPad option right now that I'm using and like is the LogMeIn client.

This is the thing I'm struggling with also. So far i'm leaning towards desktop connect. I probably will purchase it today. I'll check back in this thread before I do tho.

I dobt think that any of the current vnc/rdp apps send audio back to you... Certainly Iteleport (iPhone version) and iPad desktop connect do not.

wormhole remote only supports VNC/RDPing into OSX machines right? So no RDPing into a work WIndows XP machine then :(

Anyone tried "PC Access"? It looks pretty good and only cost $3

I like the feature that being able to copy/paste to remote computer

So i'm checking out Wyse PocketCloud and it got slightly higher reviews and is $29.99. Anyone use this? It seems to support VMWare? dunno what good that is.

Desktop Connect has a setting to turn Audio on for RDP connections. I only connect to servers w/o sound cards, so I can't test to see if it actually works.

From what I can tell, PocketCloud doesn't work with VNC at all. It just mentions Windows in the description, nothing about Macs.

ALSO: Wormhole seems to be working in iTunes now. Who's brave enough to plunk down the $7? The icon is hideous lol

Thanks. I was just about to buy wormhole but it got a bad review in the remote desktop thread.

lol, I said the same thing about the icon

So Desktop Connect = No Audio?

It wouldn't matter because the frame rate is painfully slow. I don't know if other vnc client has different performance

I purchased desktop connect. Only tried it on my local network so far. It's ok, a bit difficult to navigate with your finger as the mouse, it tends to lag a bit. A bluebook mouse for the iPad could solve this (not possible atm). I'd like to see a way freeze an program into the window to only interact with it.

If Onlinve can smoothly stream games at 15+ frames per second with audio from a server that's miles away from you, I'm hoping that we'll see a comparable VNC app on the iPad. Are there any? There's so many VNC apps already.

May be a dumb / obvious question, but I'm waiting on my ipad 3g, and would love to connect to work when it comes in.

Our office, does not allow logmein, gotomypc etc. The approved solution for anyone needing to get to their PC, is remote desktop after running a program called secureclient by checkpoint.

This works great from my laptop, but I'm not sure how it effects connecting through ipad.

Will any vnc/rdp "emulate" (for lack of a better word) secureclient? Is it proprietary, and therefore I'm stuck??

Sorry for my lack of technical details, our IT department hasn't been very forthcoming to inquiries, and while I can turn the key and drive, don't know what's going on under the hood.

Would love to get this working on the ipad. I might actually be able to travel without my laptop!

I was in your place a few days ago.

Not knowing which one to use but needing one really bad.

I purchased logmein ignition & desktop connect.

Desktop connect reminds of vmware fusion for mac. I really like the interface.
Shame it lags when remotely connected TRYING TO STREAM ANYTHING is painful. I have a 50mbps connection @ home so it is not my network.
Samething happens when i connect to my work network @ 100mbps.

Can be a little irritating to setup if you never dealt with RDP/VNC configurations. static I.P/dns, port opening/routing etc)

Logmein Ignition by far is the easiest and practical. You install a small addon on every computer you want control link them to your logmein account and thats it.

Both interfaces are good but I personally prefer desktop connects.

If your looking to stream content look elsewhere. Trying to stream anything flash is horrible.
